Irish Competitors Complete Clean Sweep Across All Events at Re-Laois the Cubers 2026English
The sports hall at Mountrath Community School buzzed with relentless activity on June 27 and June 28 as speedcubing returned to Mountrath, Ireland. Across dozens of timing stations, competitors kept their eyes locked on scrambled puzzles while judges hovered attentively over every turn. The atmosphere inside the hall reflected the intense focus and technical skill of a major cubing competition, drawing entrants from across the country and abroad for two packed days of head-to-head solving.
By the conclusion of the 2026 weekend, competitors representing Ireland had accomplished an absolute sweep, capturing all 33 available podium positions across the tournament schedule. Across 11 official events and 19 separate rounds, domestic speed cubing talent proved completely dominant on home soil. Leading the charge at Re-Laois the Cubers 2026 was Stephanie Rose Martin, who secured the premier 3x3x3 Cube title with a decisive 7.79 winning average alongside a round-best single of 6.79.
Martin made history beyond the classic Rubik's Cube as well, setting two Irish national records during the Megaminx event. Her standout mark of 23.47 established a new national record single, which she paired with a 25.93 national record average to win the gold medal outright. She also added silver-medal performances in both the 5x5x5 Cube and 6x6x6 Cube, alongside a third-place finish in the 4x4x4 Cube, cementing one of the most comprehensive individual showings seen at an Irish WCA competition.
Ciarán Beahan delivered an equally formidable masterclass in the big cube categories, securing three separate victories. Beahan captured first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with a 24.31 average, besting runner-up Elliott Laurent at 28.96 and Martin at 29.19. He continued his winning streak in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 40.83 average ahead of Martin and Adam Bermingham, before sealing the 6x6x6 Cube crown with an average of 1:14.68, once again clear of Martin and Laurent on the podium.
In the remaining puzzle categories, variety and precision defined the results. Oisín Olwill took first place in Pyraminx with a sharp 2.33 average, edging Lucas Patrick Dowling and Rían Burke. Burke earned his own victory in the Clock event, putting together a 4.56 average to defeat Ben Timmons and Onome Brownly-Otiede. Brownly-Otiede topped the 3x3x3 One-Handed standings with a 10.95 average, while Kalin Doherty claimed the 2x2x2 Cube title in 1.77. Simon Kelly proved quickest without sight, posting a 28.93 single to win 3x3x3 Blindfolded.
Away from the top steps of the podium, significant individual milestones were achieved throughout the 66-person roster. Venice Chia Hang Yuie took on seven events and dropped their 2x2x2 Cube personal best down to 4.10, cutting 64.2 percent off their previous best mark. Charlie Egan competed across eight events and took 54.7 percent off their previous 4x4x4 Cube record with a 1:12.49 single. Jack Spillane tackled nine disciplines, delivering a 2.29 in 2x2x2 Cube to improve by 54.6 percent, while Cillian Lynch halved their 3x3x3 Cube record with a 14.09 single.
New event debuts also highlighted the weekend for multiple dedicated entrants. Jeremy Bohua Wei contested six events, registering a first 4x4x4 Cube attempt of 49.41 and a 20th place finish in Pyraminx. Eoin McMillan entered five events, logging a first 2x2x2 Cube solve of 4.29 while taking 40.3 percent off their 4x4x4 Cube best. Mason Mulready took on ten disciplines, reaching fourth place in Pyraminx and posting a first 6x6x6 Cube result of 5:30.96. Thomas Michael Seán Cunningham completed all eleven events, claiming fifth in Megaminx and recording their first 3x3x3 Blindfolded result in 2:35.14.
The 3x3 results rounded out a thrilling conclusion to Re-Laois the Cubers 2026, where Martin was joined on the podium by Beahan with an 8.07 average and Olwill with an 8.70 mark. From new entrants establishing their first official times to seasoned masters claiming national marks, the tournament highlighted the depth of the sport in the region, bringing two days of vibrant puzzle solving in Mountrath to an emphatic finish.
