Ziyu Wu Breaks Megaminx World Record at Quanzhou Summer 2026English

The competition floor at the Binhai Hotel fell into focused quiet as competitors took their stations across six distinct disciplines. Speedcubing demands absolute mental discipline, where competitors must internalise complex move sequences and execute precise turning without hesitation. Across twelve rounds of action, 112 speed cubing competitors gathered in Quanzhou, Fujian, China on May 30, 2026, delivering high-stakes performances under the strict regulations of the World Cube Association.

While solving complex geometric puzzles requires intense memorisation and pattern recognition, Ziyu Wu produced the defining masterclass of Quanzhou Summer 2026 in the Megaminx event. Wu delivered a breathtaking world record single of 21.04 seconds, shaving down global boundaries on the dodecahedral puzzle. Wu also secured an Asian record average of 24.61 seconds across two rounds, taking the gold medal ahead of Dongzhe Li in second with 38.81 seconds and Yening Liu in third with 41.34 seconds among 29 competitors.

The 3x3x3 Cube contest stood out as the centerpiece Rubik's Cube battle of the meet, featuring 107 entrants across two rounds. Kaicheng Jin claimed top honours on the podium with a winning average of 6.37 seconds and a best single of 5.13 seconds. Xi Chen took second place with a 6.77 average, while Tiancheng Zhang finished third with a 7.30 average. These official 3x3 results capped a fiercely contested main event that highlighted the depth of talent throughout the region.

Record-setting execution continued across the side disciplines. Kaixi Guo stormed to victory in Skewb, setting a national record single of 0.92 seconds and finishing with a winning average of 2.63 seconds. Mingze Lin earned the silver medal with a 2.71 average, while Yening Liu secured third place with 3.30. Guo added a silver in Clock with a 4.01 average and a bronze in Pyraminx with 3.06, demonstrating exceptional versatility across the tournament schedule.

The Clock event delivered another historic milestone at Quanzhou Summer 2026. Yening Liu registered a national record single of 2.38 seconds, ultimately claiming the bronze medal with a 4.29 average. Haoxu Ye won the Clock event with a 3.75 average, edging Kaixi Guo into second. Liu turned that momentum into a championship in Pyraminx, taking first place with a 2.48 winning average over Puze Mao at 2.58 and Guo at 3.06. In Square-1, Zhiquan Li captured gold with a 6.96 average, followed by Kexin Chen at 8.50 and Haohan Zheng at 10.18.

Beyond the podium finishes, the weekend provided a proving ground where competitors tackled new challenges and achieved major milestones across multiple disciplines. Xinyu Li entered four events at this WCA competition, securing a best finish of 12th in 3x3x3 Cube, posting a first ever attempt at Square-1 with 15.13 seconds, setting a Skewb personal best of 6.45 seconds, and dropping a Pyraminx personal best to 4.45 seconds, which was 40 percent faster than before. Runyi Jiang took on three events, logging a first ever attempt at Skewb of 6.37 seconds, a Pyraminx personal best of 5.28 seconds, and an 11.53 personal best in 3x3x3 Cube that was 31.9 percent faster.

Major breakthroughs defined the lower rounds as newer entrants pushed their limits across the board. Xixi Chen tackled four events, recording a first ever attempt at Square-1 of 17.24 seconds, a first ever attempt at Pyraminx of 10.55 seconds, and a Skewb personal best of 6.42 seconds, an improvement of 36.3 percent. Shengzhe Gu managed a first ever attempt at Skewb of 17.10 seconds, while lowering a Pyraminx personal best to 6.25 seconds by 25.8 percent and a 3x3x3 Cube personal best to 9.34 seconds by 22.6 percent. Heyang Cai debuted in three events with a 1:06.84 in Megaminx, 9.39 in Clock, and 17.70 in Square-1. Yan Su registered a first ever attempt at Pyraminx of 5.33 seconds, 3x3x3 Cube of 9.23 seconds, and Square-1 of 42.48 seconds.
