Briones Arreola and Ruenes Hernandez Headline Deep Fields at Puerta Victoria 2025English

A razor-thin margin of one single hundredth of a second decided the 3x3x3 One-Handed final, setting the tone for an intensely contested gathering. Benjamin Sanchez Magaña took the title with a 14.07 average, narrowly edging César Abraham Briones Arreola at 14.08, while Joaquin Ruenes Hernández followed close behind at 14.32. Held at the Plaza Puerta Victoria on October 4, 2025, Puerta Victoria 2025 gathered 50 competitors in Queretaro, Mexico. Across eight rounds in four distinct events, reaching the final phase required navigating unusually crowded rosters and relentless cut lines throughout the one-day speedcubing fixture.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube contest delivered exceptional quality from a massive starting pool of 49 competitors. Navigating two rigorous rounds of classic Rubik's Cube solving, César Abraham Briones Arreola earned the title with a winning average of 7.71 and posted the best single solve of the event at 6.63. Alonso Moreno pushed the pace to claim the second step on the podium with an 8.35 average, while Favio Rubén Olvera Vega secured third place with an average of 8.86. These standout 3x3 results demonstrated the incredible standard demanded to advance through a packed field in Queretaro.

The 2x2x2 Cube event presented another dense bracket of 45 competitors, where Joaquin Ruenes Hernández proved unbeatable across two high-speed rounds. Ruenes Hernández took first place with a blistering 1.58 average and also recorded the tournament low single of 1.14. Benjamin Sanchez Magaña added another podium finish to his day by claiming the second position with an average of 2.19. Nicolás Concha Acosta earned third place representing Colombia with a 2.53 average, securing the sole non-Mexican podium placement of the entire event.

Joaquin Ruenes Hernández returned to the top of the table in the Pyraminx competition, capturing his second title of the day against 39 entrants. Delivering a smooth 2.63 average alongside the fastest single mark of 2.22, Ruenes Hernández led a tightly bunched podium group. Luis Fernando Garfias Arias captured second place with a 3.90 average, just barely finishing ahead of Rodrigo Bolaños León, who rounded out the top three with an average of 3.91. The double triumph across both Pyraminx and 2x2x2 highlighted Ruenes Hernández as one of the standout performers of the event.

Behind the fight for silverware, personal milestones unfolded across the competition floor. Mílan Kivit Carrillo took on three events, logging a first career official attempt at Pyraminx with a time of 10.57 and lowering his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 38.1 percent down to 6.47. Roberto Barroso Fernández also entered three disciplines, recording a 16.73 in his first Pyraminx attempt, slicing his 2x2x2 best by 33.7 percent to 9.31, and logging a 45.38 best in 3x3x3. Manuel Isai Olvera Millan took on a full slate of four events, logging his first official One-Handed solve in 1:52.81.

The 2025 fixture demonstrated the growing local depth within Mexican speed cubing, as 11 of the 12 available podium positions remained with domestic competitors alongside one for Colombia. With four classic events packed into eight rounds, the schedule demanded endurance and consistency under time constraints. Every round required absolute focus to survive the deep qualifications and earn a place at the final solving tables.

As the final timers stopped, Puerta Victoria 2025 concluded a packed program of competitive solving. From the single hundredth separating the One-Handed leaders to the double victories of Ruenes Hernández and the 3x3 triumph of Briones Arreola, the day displayed remarkable precision. Every participant contributed to a competitive WCA competition that tested skill against deep brackets in Queretaro, setting an ambitious benchmark for the rest of the cubing competition calendar.
