Dana Yi and Ayden Dincher Lead Experienced Field in LancasterEnglish

Four hundred and twenty-one competitors gathered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, for Pretzel Mania Summer 2024, held from August 31 to September 1. A seasoned field took to the tables at the Lancaster County Convention Center for a weekend of intense speedcubing across eight events and fifteen rounds. The atmosphere was charged with the kind of focus that comes when veterans of the circuit return to push their limits, and the results reflected a high standard of competitive cubing. With an array of puzzles from the classic Rubik's Cube to the 7x7x7, the weekend offered a robust test of skill and nerve.

The 3x3x3 Cube event anchored the weekend, drawing 415 entrants over three rounds. Dana Yi emerged victorious with a winning average of 7.34 seconds, narrowly edging out Christopher Sun, who posted a 7.41. Ayden Dincher completed the podium with a 7.42 average, though Yi's impressive 6.97 single was a clear highlight. In a competition where fractions of a second matter, the top three separated themselves with remarkable consistency, setting the standard for the 3x3 results.

Ayden Dincher was a dominant force throughout the weekend, securing three overall victories. Dincher triumphed in the 2x2x2 Cube with a winning average of 1.60 seconds and a best single of 1.35. He continued his form into the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, taking the win with a 13.30 average over Brayden Adams and Ishan Donavalli. Dincher also claimed the Skewb title with a 3.51 average, rounding out an exceptional performance across multiple disciplines at this WCA competition.

Benjamin Wei dominated the larger puzzles, executing clean solves to win both the 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 events. Wei navigated the 6x6x6 Cube to a winning average of 1:25.12, ahead of Christopher Sun and Roxy Behrle. He then backed it up with a victory in the 7x7x7 Cube, posting an average of 2:01.18 to best Behrle and Livia Kleiner. Wei's commanding performance on the big cubes highlighted the depth of specialized talent present at the event.

Livia Kleiner captured the Pyraminx title, taking the win with an average of 2.32 seconds and a best single of 1.77. Mark Gowman and Xavier Ye followed in second and third. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event, which demands intense concentration and memorisation, Brandon Lin took the top spot with a best single of 26.90 seconds, despite a DNF average. Christopher Sun and Miles Greco rounded out the blindfolded podium, adding to Sun's impressive tally of top-three finishes for the weekend.

Beyond the main podiums, Pretzel Mania Summer 2024 provided a platform for competitors setting personal milestones and taking on new challenges. Dylan Mauro achieved a massive 75.7 percent improvement in his 2x2x2 Cube personal best, bringing his time down to 6.76 seconds, and also took on Pyraminx for the first time. Nathaniel Rodriguez secured a 57.2 percent faster Pyraminx personal best of 6.83 seconds and made his first attempts at 3x3x3 One-Handed and Skewb. Oliver Scaduto improved his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 57.5 percent to 4.01 seconds, while also trying Skewb and One-Handed for the first time.

Daniyal Weitzman cut his 3x3x3 Cube personal best nearly in half, improving by 47.3 percent to 16.46 seconds, alongside first attempts in Pyraminx and Skewb. Lily McClelland recorded a Skewb personal best of 2.30 seconds, a 53.3 percent improvement, and ventured into the 6x6x6 and 7x7x7 events for the first time. William Paul Dunphy took on seven events, making his first ever attempts at the 2x2x2, 6x6x6, and 7x7x7 cubes. Maximilian Stohrer tackled the 6x6x6, 7x7x7, and Skewb for the first time, while Jaxon Evans entered eight events, debuting in the 6x6x6, 7x7x7, and Skewb.

The 2x2x2 Cube event saw an exceptional number of records set, reflecting the high caliber of speed cubing on display. Robert Wilson, Will White, Panashe Sharma, Eli Ozsvath, and Jared Buske-Fehrle all etched their names into the record books alongside Dincher, Sun, and Will Callan. The flurry of record-setting solves in the shortest event of the weekend underscored the razor-thin margins and the intense preparation of the field.

The United States swept all 24 podium places across the eight events, a testament to the strong local talent pool in 2024. From the blistering fast solves of the 2x2x2 to the marathon efforts required for the big cubes, the competition showcased the full spectrum of competitive cubing. As the dust settled in Lancaster, the veterans had certainly made their mark, setting a high bar for the rest of the season.

With the weekend concluding, the cubing competition left competitors and spectators with plenty to review. The mix of established winners maintaining their dominance and the multitude of personal barriers broken made for a memorable event. The rigorous demands of fifteen rounds tested everyone, but the results stand as a clear indicator of the ever-improving standards within the sport.
