Malo Coraboeuf Dominates Pllouvara Open 2024 as Fresh Talent RisesEnglish
Malo Coraboeuf put together an extraordinary display at the Salle des fêtes du Gaverlay, capturing five championship titles across eleven events to anchor an action-packed weekend. The French standout set the tone across multiple disciplines, highlighted by his victory in the premier 3x3x3 Cube event where he posted an 8.44 winning average and a lightning single of 6.49. Held over February 3 to February 4, the tournament brought together 42 competitors in Plouvara (Pllouvara), France for an intense two days of speedcubing across 17 distinct rounds.
The Pllouvara Open 2024 served as a major gathering point for newcomers alongside established solvers. A substantial wave of competitors took to official competition mats for the very first time across several puzzle categories, transforming the local hall into an energetic showcase of burgeoning potential. In total, all 33 podium places across the weekend were claimed by French solvers, yet the true pulse of this WCA competition came from the sheer number of debut attempts registered throughout the schedule.
Coraboeuf was relentless across both classic and specialist events. Beyond his main 3x3 results, he topped the Megaminx field with a 54.38 winning average, took first place in 3x3x3 One-Handed with 16.95, and claimed gold in 4x4x4 Cube with a 34.33 average. Demonstrating his all-around mastery, Coraboeuf also triumphed in the blindfolded category, recording a 1:02.39 single in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where solving the traditional Rubik's Cube requires pure memorisation and precision execution without visual feedback.
Bastien Ferraud proved equally formidable across several technical puzzles, mounting a triple-victory campaign of his own. Ferraud secured the 2x2x2 Cube title with an exceptional 2.33 winning average, ahead of Anton Hebert-Baron who finished second at 2.67 and Coraboeuf in third at 3.04. Ferraud continued his winning form in big cubes, capturing the 5x5x5 Cube final with a 1:15.28 mark over Coraboeuf's 1:16.15 and Julien Roux's 1:20.35, before rounding out his haul with a Square-1 title behind a crisp 13.99 average.
In other specialty events throughout the cubing competition, Hippolyte Moreau took top honours in Skewb with a 5.99 average, finishing ahead of Coraboeuf at 6.64 and Lena Cogat at 7.01. Clément Valot showed remarkable turning speed on the tetrahedron, winning Pyraminx with a 6.10 average and a best single of 3.62. Meanwhile, in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, Anton Piau demonstrated strategic efficiency, taking first place with an average of 35.33 moves and an event-best single solve of 29 moves.
