Please Be Quiet Thailand 2023

Inside The Knowledge Exchange: KX, the atmosphere was defined by deliberate silence and intense concentration. The venue in Bangkok, Thailand offered an environment where every turn of a mechanism echoed through the room as solvers sat with blindfolds and scorecards. This specialized cubing competition brought together 19 competitors on March 4, 2023, stripping away the fast-paced noise of typical weekend meets to focus entirely on precision, memory, and strategy. Across five distinct events, veterans of the speedcubing circuit showcased their deep experience, proving that steady discipline remains formidable.

The 2023 calendar reached a notable milestone at Please Be Quiet Thailand 2023, where seasoned champions stepped up to the tables in search of peak form. Blindfolded disciplines demand hours of practice away from the spotlight, and returning to the competition floor gave experienced hands the stage to demonstrate their mastery. With six total rounds scheduled throughout the day, the single-day WCA competition highlighted how veteran solvers adapt to high-pressure scenarios, relying on well-honed recall systems and efficient movement.

The marquee performance of the gathering came in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where Yifan Wang of China delivered an extraordinary exhibition of speed cubing excellence. In the opening round, Wang etched his name into the continental record books by setting a new Asian record single of 17.46 seconds, solving the standard Rubik's Cube without sight at breathtaking pace. Wang carried that sharpness into the final round to claim victory with a winning average of 19.17 seconds, backed by a best single of 18.24. Sora Wenjie Xu took second place on the podium with a time of 35.42, while Itthikorn Jittaveeroj earned third for Thailand with a mark of 2:05.47.

China's Sora Wenjie Xu put on a multi-event clinic, demonstrating complete control across the blindfolded categories. In the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event, Xu secured the title by successfully solving 18 out of 20 cubes within a time of 55:36. Aris Raksamani finished as runner-up with a perfect 5 out of 5 in 43:57, followed by Wang in third with 11 out of 18 in 55:57. The demanding nature of tracking dozens of pieces simultaneously made Xu's high volume of solved cubes a standout highlight of Please Be Quiet Thailand 2023.

Xu extended that dominance into the larger blindfolded puzzles, capturing top honors in both 4x4x4 Blindfolded and 5x5x5 Blindfolded. In the four-layered event, Xu posted a winning single of 2:28.36, outlasting Tanai Chaikraveephand, who recorded 7:10.90, and Itthikorn Jittaveeroj, who registered 14:26.00. The 5x5x5 Blindfolded final tested the limits of endurance, where Xu emerged as the lone competitor to post a valid solve, winning with a single of 6:30.64 amidst a field of unfinished attempts.

Beyond the podium battles, the floor at Please Be Quiet Thailand 2023 was filled with quiet personal triumphs from dedicated participants tackling new challenges. Korabhathara Boontem delivered one of the weekend's most impressive leaps, logging a 3x3x3 Blindfolded personal best of 2:03.03, which was 44.7 percent faster than their previous mark. Boontem also branched out into unfamiliar territory, recording a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a count of 44, alongside a first attempt in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind of 2 out of 4 in 29:44, leading to a sixth-place finish.

Other competitors similarly expanded their competitive repertoires across the tables. Pittinun Taweewattanasophon took on three events, achieving a best finish of fifth place in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a first ever attempt of 40 moves, while also logging a debut 3x3x3 Multi-Blind result of 4 out of 8 in 58:29. Napat Smavatkul made a first career attempt at 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, finishing seventh overall with a 42-move solution. Nattasit Phaisalrittiwong also recorded a first attempt in Fewest Moves with 42, finishing 12th, while Polpipat Choolekha entered the event for the first time as well, logging a 45-move solution for 14th place.

The 3x3x3 Fewest Moves discipline brought a different flavor of intellectual rigor to the schedule, requiring competitors to find the shortest possible solution in a one-hour window. Thailand's Natthaphat Mahtani claimed the championship with a winning average of 29.33 moves, highlighted by a best single of 27 moves. Asia Konvittayayotin secured second place with an average of 35.00 moves, while Yifan Wang placed third with 36.33 moves, rounding out an intensely calculated event.

When the final scores were tallied at Please Be Quiet Thailand 2023, the event showed how deep the talent pool runs across niche disciplines. Host nation Thailand secured 10 podium positions across the board, while China claimed eight top-three finishes. The combination of continental records, multi-blind stamina, and strategic move counts provided a comprehensive look at the diverse skills that define modern competitive solving as participants prepare for the next chapters of the season.
