Big Cubes Demand Precision as Piera Open 2023 Showcases Relentless Mean of Three ClashesEnglish

When solving the largest puzzles against the clock, there is no safety net, and a single lockup can dismantle an entire podium charge. At Societat Foment 1925 Piera, the grueling mean of three format put every turn under intense scrutiny across the weekend of July 29 to July 30. Mauro Moisés Ortega López met that unforgiving standard head on in the 6x6x6 Cube, locking down a winning average of 1:58.51 alongside a best single of 1:54.04. He proved that sustained concentration without a throwaway time remains one of the ultimate tests in modern speedcubing.

The 7x7x7 Cube presented the exact same severe conditions, where three successful attempts were required to build a valid total. Antonio López rose to the challenge brilliantly, capturing the victory with a 2:26.97 mean and the quickest single solve of the event at 2:16.52. Mauro Moisés Ortega López took second place with a 3:10.71 average, while Arnau Tous Mateu secured third at 3:33.60. Over 25 competitors took to the stage for the massive puzzle, each trying to avoid the single counting mistake that could derail an entire round at Piera Open 2023.

Beyond the grueling big cube brackets, the classic 3x3x3 Cube drew an impressive field of 96 solvers to the venue in Piera, Barcelona, Spain. Through three competitive rounds of Rubik's Cube action, Arnau Tous Mateu dominated the field to win the final with a 7.84 average. Daniel Cofreces Jaureguizar finished in second place with an 8.75 mark, followed by Pavlo Bondar in third at 8.99. The 3x3 results from the earlier stages highlighted fierce depth across the field, with Bondar laying down a stunning 6.45 single and Tous Mateu delivering a 7.62 effort.

The 2023 gathering featured 97 competitors taking part across 12 events and 18 total rounds, demonstrating remarkable versatility. Tous Mateu was a dominant force across the entire weekend, capturing four separate titles. In addition to his victory in the main event, he claimed the Pyraminx crown with a 2.47 average, won Skewb with a 3.92 average, and clinched the Clock title with a 7.58 average. In that narrow Clock finish, he edged out Pavlo Bondar, who posted a close 7.65 average, while Marc Serra Torres took third at 8.67.
