Pencil-Sharp Focus Meets Speed Demands at Ota Autumn 2025English

Inside Ota ward plaza in Ota, Tokyo, Japan, the competition tables were arranged for an intense day of precision turning and mental calculation. Timers clicked and display lights flashed across the floor on November 8, 2025, bringing together a field of 72 competitors. The structured environment provided the classic setting for competitive solving, where analytical thinking and deliberate execution stand in sharp contrast to the blistering pace of frantic hand movement.

While solving disciplines often evoke the meticulous, methodical nature of pen-and-paper Fewest Moves analysis where competitors deliberate over single turns, Ota Autumn 2025 channeled that analytical rigor into pure speedcubing velocity. Every rotation of the puzzle required foresight and calculation under strict timing rules. Across seven rounds in three fast-paced disciplines, participants translated geometric strategy into rapid mechanical execution during the single-day gathering.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a headline field of 67 competitors, progressing through three rounds of elimination. Shu Ogawa emerged as the champion in the final round, locking down a winning average of 7.48 seconds to take top honors in the main Rubik's Cube category. Ogawa paired that consistency with a best single solve of 6.36 seconds, securing victory in a remarkably tight battle at the top of the standings.

The 3x3 results featured an exceptionally narrow margin at the finish. Kantaro Sakamoto finished as runner-up with an average of 7.50 seconds, trailing Ogawa by a mere two hundredths of a second. Yi-Fan Wu of Taiwan took third place on the podium with a 7.63 average. Overall, Japanese competitors secured eight of the nine available podium positions across all events, with Wu providing Taiwan's sole podium finish at Ota Autumn 2025.

Beyond the podium race, several participants achieved standout personal milestones and expanded their repertoires across multiple disciplines at this cubing competition. Go Nakamura entered three events and secured an eighth-place finish in Pyraminx, cutting his Skewb personal best by 48.4 percent to 4.56 seconds from 8.83 and lowering his Pyraminx mark by 45.1 percent to 2.25 seconds. Sho Nakamura took on the classic cube and dropped his personal best by 34.8 percent to 11.86 seconds from 18.18. Yusuke Suzuki tackled three events, finishing 16th in Pyraminx while slicing his Skewb best by 33.6 percent down to 5.62 seconds from 8.46.

First-time event attempts also highlighted the depth of the weekend program. Harunosuke Yoshida placed 12th in the 3x3x3 Cube with a personal best of 6.76 seconds, a 17 percent drop from 8.14, while logging a first official Pyraminx attempt of 8.19 seconds. Harenosuke Eguchi registered a 15th-place finish in Pyraminx on a debut 5.79 single, alongside a 3x3x3 Cube best of 10.41 seconds, down 3.7 percent from 10.81. Kayo Osawa completed two events, logging a first Pyraminx solve of 9.53 and a first Skewb solve of 14.10. Yusuke Misawa entered three events, recording a first Pyraminx mark of 16.87 and a first Skewb mark of 13.98, while Kyohei Nakano posted a first Skewb solve of 26.36 and a first Pyraminx solve of 19.93.

The side events delivered equally brisk times, beginning with the Pyraminx tournament which gathered 33 competitors over two rounds. Nice Yoshida captured first place with a winning average of 2.85 seconds and a best single solve of 1.83 seconds. Hajime Miyazaki followed in second place with an average of 3.11 seconds, while Haruki Tsutsui completed the top three with a mark of 3.57 seconds.

The Skewb bracket also saw 33 competitors battle across two rounds of speed cubing action. Shunya Ishikawa claimed the victory with a 2.55 average and a lightning-fast 1.87 single solve. Noriyuki Okada took the second spot on the podium with a 3.33 average, while Raiden Reynolds secured third place with a 4.47 average, wrapping up the round with decisive turning across the final solves.

As the equipment was packed away at Ota ward plaza, the single-day WCA competition closed its books on the 2025 calendar in Tokyo. From the opening turns to the deciding solves, Ota Autumn 2025 showcased the sharp focus, intense preparation, and diverse puzzle disciplines that define modern competitive cubing.
