NxN Puzzles Take Center Stage as Abraham and Rayyan Shine in AlappuzhaEnglish

Ribin Abraham set the benchmark in Alappuzha with a decisive 8.72 second winning average in the classic 3x3x3 Cube, recording a single solve of 7.98 seconds along the way. His performance topped a busy day dedicated strictly to layered cube formats, drawing twenty-six competitors to the Finprov Learning Centre for an intense single-day showcase on February 16, 2025. The gathering served as a pure celebration of the cubic twisty puzzle family, testing competitors across seven separate events and eleven total rounds of action.

Across the schedule at NxNs at Finprov 2025, the range of challenges stretched from the lightning-quick 2x2x2 Cube all the way up to the marathon 7x7x7 Cube. While standard speedcubing tournaments often mix geometric variants like Pyraminx and Skewb, this specific cubing competition in Alappuzha, Kerala, India kept the spotlight entirely on the standard NxN continuum. The progression demanded starkly different mechanical skillsets, transitioning from two-second sprint routines straight into the heavy endurance solving required for the largest layered cubes.

The 3x3 results formed only one part of the multi-event narrative, as multi-layered events produced several of the day's closest battles. Muhammad Rayyan demonstrated remarkable command across the intermediate sizes, claiming first place in both the 4x4x4 Cube and 5x5x5 Cube categories. Rayyan secured the 4x4x4 Cube victory with a 37.91 average, holding off Ritesh R Nair who took second with 41.85 and Vaishnav Nitesh who finished third at 41.90. In the 5x5x5 Cube, Rayyan clocked a 1:13.11 winning average, edging out Vaishnav Nitesh by just a fraction of a second as Nitesh marked 1:13.36 for the silver position.

Vaishnav Nitesh responded with complete dominance in the largest NxN puzzles on the docket. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Nitesh captured first place with an impressive 2:15.79 average and a best single of 2:09.08, ahead of Rayyan in second at 2:31.29 and Netravat Pendsey in third with 2:47.85. Nitesh doubled his gold tally in the 7x7x7 Cube, crossing the line in 3:58.65 to lead Pendsey's 4:07.51 average and Rayyan's 4:08.20. These long-format events pushed mental concentration to the limit across eleven competitors who completed every stage of the 7x7x7 lineup.

Away from the top of the podium, several participants made substantial strides across the puzzle roster during NxNs at Finprov 2025. Ayaan A. Panicker delivered a massive 55.1 percent improvement on his 2x2x2 Cube personal best with a 2.71 single, alongside a 12.9 percent drop to 1:29.73 in the 4x4x4 Cube. Kesavan Sreekumar took on all seven events, recording his first ever official attempt at the 6x6x6 Cube in 8:57.80 for an 11th place finish, while reducing his 5x5x5 Cube mark by 32.2 percent down to 2:31.03 and dropping his 4x4x4 Cube best by 8.9 percent to 1:11.36. Karthik Abhilash posted personal records across three events, trimming 42.3 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube time to hit 5.56, lowering his 3x3x3 Cube record by 27 percent to 22.54, and shaving 7.5 percent from his 4x4x4 Cube best at 2:09.75.

That same drive was evident as Tom Sebastian tackled five separate events, achieving a career-best 9th place in the 5x5x5 Cube with a first-time mark of 1:57.61, cutting his 3x3x3 One-Handed best by 28.6 percent to 23.48, and dropping his 2x2x2 Cube mark by 22 percent to 4.58. Ayesha Bai logged her first official attempts in both the 3x3x3 One-Handed at 1:43.24 and the 4x4x4 Cube at 4:19.69, while improving her 3x3x3 Cube time by 7.2 percent to 20.11. Lukah Ibhru James stepped into new territory with first attempts in the 4x4x4 Cube at 3:03.67 and the 3x3x3 One-Handed at 1:23.60 across four events, while Amay R. Nair improved his 3x3x3 Cube standard by 18.9 percent to reach 19.56.

The 2x2x2 Cube event saw some of the tightest margins of the entire WCA competition, concluding with Ankit A claiming the title on a 3.08 average. Muhammed Shehzad Khan finished right behind in second place with a 3.15 average, while MK Sreehari secured third place at 3.46. The short-format round was characterized by extreme speed cubing efficiency, featuring personal record milestones from multiple finalists who kept the crowd engrossed through both rounds of rapid-fire solves.

The one-handed event brought an additional layer of technical execution to the classic Rubik's Cube format. Ribin Abraham returned to the winner's circle by taking the 3x3x3 One-Handed title with an average of 13.33 seconds, complemented by a sharp 11.71 single solve. Sulaiman Mohammed Kabeer grabbed the runner-up spot with a 17.29 average, holding off Muhammed Shehzad Khan who secured third place on a 17.34 mark.

With twenty-one podium positions claimed by Indian competitors throughout the day, NxNs at Finprov 2025 provided a comprehensive look at the depth of layered puzzle mastery in the region. From the quick turning of 2x2x2 to the heavy endurance tests of 7x7x7, the event demonstrated how varied and demanding cubic disciplines remain within modern competitive cubing.
