Xavier Ye Claims Three Event Victories at Northern Tier Twist 2025 in GibsoniaEnglish

Three separate event titles belonged to Xavier Ye by the time the final timers stopped in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, USA. Across seven events and thirteen rounds of play on October 25, 2025, Northern Tier Twist 2025 welcomed 36 competitors to the Northern Tier Regional Library. Ye established an early command over the multi-discipline lineup, locking down victories in Megaminx, Clock, and Pyraminx while also adding a runner-up finish on the 2x2x2 Cube. His versatility set the tone for an action-packed single-day schedule that tested both technical dexterity and mental endurance across puzzles of every shape.

Ye began his triple-crown performance on the twelve-sided Megaminx, taking first place with an average of 50.23 seconds after putting up a best single of 44.39. Sean Cutshaw secured second place with an average of 1:02.37, while Dev Choksi completed the podium in 1:04.67. Ye carried that momentum into Clock, delivering a winning average of 5.34 seconds alongside a single of 3.41 to hold off Mason Paice, who finished second in 6.73 seconds, and Cutshaw, who took third in 6.92.

The Pyraminx final completed Ye's trio of victories in commanding fashion. Ye recorded a 2.57-second winning average with a single of 2.07, finishing just ahead of Emmett Dunn, who took second place with a 2.75 average. Krishna Joyce completed the top three with an average of 4.32 seconds. Ye also added a podium finish in the 2x2x2 Cube, taking second place with an average of 2.03 seconds behind champion Sujan Feist, further emphasizing his pervasive influence on the leaderboards.

While Ye controlled the side events, Ganghui Lin delivered an exceptional showing on the larger cubes to capture two titles of his own. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube, which drew 35 entrants through three full rounds, Lin secured the victory with an average of 8.13 seconds and a sharp 7.00 single. Jacob Nobili and Sujan Feist engaged in an extraordinarily tight battle for the remaining podium steps, both finishing with identical averages of 8.64 seconds to place second and third respectively in the official 3x3 results.

Lin returned to the table to claim top honors on the 4x4x4 Cube, leading the 26-competitor field with a decisive 29.51 winning average and a single of 26.03 seconds. Benjamin Pugh took second place in the 4x4x4 Cube with an average of 32.49 seconds, followed by Sean Cutshaw in third at 34.83. Pugh was not done making his mark on the tournament, however, as he captured the 3x3x3 One-Handed title with a 12.63 average, edging out Cutshaw at 13.16 and Nobili at 13.39.

In the 2x2x2 Cube, Sujan Feist produced one of the fastest marks of the day, winning the final with a rapid 1.10 average after notching a 0.88 single in the earlier stages. That performance outpaced Ye's 2.03 average and Cutshaw's 2.06. Across the overall medal standings, United States competitors captured 19 podium places, while competitors representing China secured two podium positions, both courtesy of Lin's double-victory on the traditional cubes.

Beyond the championship finals, the heart of the speedcubing community showed up in the steady progression of competitors throughout the field. Isaiah Barrett made massive strides by dropping his 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 4.92 seconds, an improvement of 70.4 percent, while slashing his 4x4x4 Cube personal best to 1:18.63. Weston Johnson cut his Clock mark down to 14.56 seconds, a 53.2 percent leap, and reached 21st place in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Miles Johnson improved his Clock personal best to 12.76, while Ben Callender secured a 7th place finish in 2x2x2 Cube alongside a 3x3x3 One-Handed personal best of 21.95.

Other competitors took on entirely new challenges for the first time during this WCA competition. Carter Snyder finished 13th in Megaminx while recording his first official attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 23.83 seconds, alongside personal bests in 4x4x4 Cube and Pyraminx. Colton Gehrling earned 4th place in Pyraminx and improved his Megaminx mark to 1:29.42, while Olivia Schenk achieved a Pyraminx personal best of 5.26 seconds. Everett Resek completed his first official tournament by taking on five events, logging inaugural marks of 27.65 on the Rubik's Cube, 13.21 on Clock, and 1:48.82 on the 4x4x4 Cube.

The collective effort of the 36 entrants turned Northern Tier Twist 2025 into a showcase of disciplined practice and high-level execution. From novice solves to the lightning-fast turns of the final rounds, the speed cubing gathering in Gibsonia gave every competitor a platform to test their progress against the clock as the 2025 competitive calendar continues to unfold.
