Razor-Thin Margins Highlight Intense Battles at Niterói Open 2023English

Inside Condomínio Via Marzzini, the focus was absolute as puzzle hardware turned rapidly at the solving stations. The single-day WCA competition brought together 27 competitors on December 16, 2023, filling the venue with the focused hum of timers and turning layers. Across eight scheduled disciplines, every round demanded precision from the opening solve, but none tested nerves quite like the razor-thin battle in the one-handed event, where mere fractions of a second ultimately dictated the podium standings.

The 3x3x3 One-Handed final delivered the tightest finish of the entire gathering. Kaique de Oliveira Neves secured the gold medal with a winning average of 16.63 seconds, having also posted the best single of the event at 14.11. Hot on his heels was Gabriel Sargeiro Gomes de Mello, who logged an average of 16.80 seconds to miss top spot by just seventeen hundredths of a second. Victor Rampinelli Villar de Medeiros claimed the third step on the podium with an average of 20.17 seconds in the 17-competitor field.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew all 27 entrants across two rounds of high-tempo solving. Gustavo Dias Dullens captured the title with a winning average of 8.70 seconds and the fastest single of the round at 8.12. In the final, Victor Rampinelli Villar de Medeiros took second place with an average of 9.38 seconds, while Kaique de Oliveira Neves followed in third with a 10.03 mark. The 3x3 results served as a centrepiece of the day, proving that elite speedcubing requires sustained consistency across full five-solve averages.

Gustavo Dias Dullens added a second title to his weekend tally in the 4x4x4 Cube, posting a winning average of 34.79 seconds alongside the best single of 31.65. Kaique de Oliveira Neves finished in the runner-up position with an average of 42.00 seconds, and Pedro Henrique Tesch secured third place with 47.64.
