Lev Golub Dominates Multifaceted Roster at MriyDiy Cubing Lviv 2025English
Inside the halls of Mriy Diy in Lviv, Ukraine, the competition floor buzzed across July 5 and July 6 with the distinctive sounds of turning plastic, ticking timers, and the intense focus of 69 competitors. Tables were lined with a striking range of twisty mechanisms, from standard cubes to multifaceted dodecahedrons and mechanical dials. The two-day gathering celebrated the full mechanical spectrum of the sport, offering a diverse twelve-event program that challenged contestants across 18 rounds of fast-paced solving.
The expansive schedule ensured that speedcubing versatility took center stage throughout the weekend. Competitors shifted seamlessly between classic Rubik's Cube speed events and specialised disciplines requiring vastly different mechanical finger tricks and spatial reasoning. Across twelve distinct formats, the gathering tested everything from single-layer speed in 2x2x2 Cube to complex algorithmic management on the Megaminx and Square-1, providing a comprehensive test of dexterity for everyone involved in this premier 2025 WCA competition.
Leading the multi-disciplinary charge was Lev Golub, who delivered a masterclass across nearly half the entire schedule. Golub claimed victory in the 3x3x3 Cube with a winning average of 8.17 and a best single of 7.20 across three demanding rounds, cementing top honours in the classic discipline. In the one-handed event, Golub took first place with a 12.06 average, ahead of Vladyslav Hryniuk at 13.48 and Ihor Kastranets at 15.02. Golub also swept the 2x2x2 Cube with a 2.25 average, the Clock with 5.48, and Square-1 with an average of 10.04.
The 4x4x4 Cube delivered one of the closest finishes of the weekend, where Lev Golub clinched victory with a 29.73 average, narrowly edging out Vladyslav Hryniuk who took second place at 29.80. Serhii Fedorniak secured the third step on the podium with a 34.66 average. Hryniuk found his own dominance on the bigger and more complex puzzles, taking first place in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 53.12 average ahead of Fedorniak and Golub, as well as capturing the Megaminx title with an impressive 38.14 average.
Away from the top of the podium, the heart of the cubing competition was found in personal breakthroughs and broad participation across unfamiliar formats. Yaroslav Lovha tackled five separate events and delivered massive progress, trimming his Skewb personal best down to 16.96, which was 61.2% faster than his previous mark, alongside a 20.8% drop to 9.54 in 2x2x2 Cube and a first ever 4x4x4 Cube attempt of 2:35.16. Tymofii Stasiv posted a 56.1% improvement in Pyraminx with a mark of 9.79 and dropped 27.9% off his 3x3x3 Cube best to reach 12.74. Andriy Ravka notched a 51.8% improvement in 2x2x2 Cube with a time of 16.16 alongside a first ever 3x3x3 Cube attempt of 44.51.
That same adventurous spirit carried across several ambitious multi-event campaigns. Davyd Nakonechnyi took on nine events, earning a 13th-place finish in Skewb while posting his first ever attempts in Square-1 at 39.75, 4x4x4 Cube at 1:13.22, and Clock at 16.26.
