Dante Navarro Vera Sweeps All Three Events Across Seven Rounds at MorrOpen 2025English

A microscopic margin of one hundredth of a second decided the Pyraminx final, where Dante Navarro Vera secured a winning average of 4.15 to edge out José Antonio Gaete at 4.16. That razor-thin finish capped a dominant sweep across every event at MorrOpen 2025, held at the Centro Cultural Junta de Adelanto in Arica, Chile, on February 23, 2025. Across seven intense rounds, the structured progression from qualification phases to high-stakes finals rewarded absolute consistency under pressure.

The 2025 gathering brought together 21 competitors across three classic disciplines, testing endurance and precision across multiple stages. In a fast-paced cubing competition, navigating multi-round formats requires competitors to adapt quickly as fields narrow. With three rounds scheduled for the marquee puzzle and two rounds each for the secondary events, participants faced escalating demands from the opening solves through to the podium-deciding attempts.

In the 3x3x3 Cube, the premier test of Rubik's Cube mastery, 19 competitors took to the tables for the opening round before the cut narrowed the field toward the decisive third round. Dante Navarro Vera controlled the final stage, logging the round's best single of 8.99 on his way to a title-winning average of 9.44. Felipe Contreras Toledo took second place with an average of 11.67, while Nicolás Nelson Alcayaga Rivas secured third place averaging 12.11.

Navarro Vera maintained his complete control in the 2x2x2 Cube, advancing through the two-round format to post a winning average of 1.85 and a rapid 1.20 single. José Antonio Gaete earned the runner-up spot with an average of 3.98, while Felipe Contreras Toledo returned to the podium in third place with a 4.48 mark. Across the field, the early rounds tested execution, while the finals demanded flawless turn speed.

The Pyraminx concluded the action with the closest duel of the weekend, where Navarro Vera's 4.15 average narrowly held off Gaete's 4.16 over five solves. Nicolás Nelson Alcayaga Rivas claimed the third spot on the podium with an average of 8.91. With that victory, Navarro Vera locked in a rare clean sweep of all three titles, while Chile collected all nine available podium places at MorrOpen 2025.

Beyond the championship trophies, the competition floor highlighted remarkable individual progress across the roster. Luis Andres Velarde Maquera from Peru delivered one of the weekend's biggest leaps, recording a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 11.32 that was 32.8 percent faster than his prior mark, alongside a 2x2x2 Cube best of 3.09 to finish fourth in 3x3x3. Yuri Anderson Huancahuire Alvarez cut 20.8 percent from his 3x3x3 best with a 10.42 single on his way to fifth place, while trimming his 2x2x2 mark to 4.30. Jose Luis Antonio Paco Chipana entered two events, logging a 3x3x3 personal best of 13.59 that improved by 10.4 percent, alongside his first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube with a 5.81 solve. Juan Cristóbal Tripayán Olivares tackled three events and earned a weekend-best finish of fifth in Pyraminx.

Several competitors embraced the challenge of brand new disciplines and early career milestones on the stage. Agustin Esteban Lagos Rojas tackled three events, posting a personal best finish of fourth in Pyraminx with a first ever attempt of 9.71, in addition to a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 15.94. Three competitors took part in their first WCA competition: Joaquin Salazar Valenzuela recorded first ever attempts of 16.68 in Pyraminx, 16.68 in 2x2x2 Cube, and 26.96 in 3x3x3 Cube; Jerson Felipe Concha Mirabal logged first ever attempts of 10.00 in 2x2x2 Cube, 27.17 in Pyraminx, and 32.10 in 3x3x3 Cube; and Bruno Palacios registered first ever attempts of 8.55 in 2x2x2 Cube, 15.98 in Pyraminx, and 19.61 in 3x3x3 Cube across their three events.

The discipline required across seven total rounds showcased the depth of local speedcubing talent in northern Chile. Whether surviving the cutline in preliminary rounds or converting pressure into podiums during the finals, competitors delivered compelling performances across every bracket. With the 3x3 results officially ratified and the final averages recorded, MorrOpen 2025 concluded as a testament to technical focus, providing every participant valuable experience as they look ahead to the next season of speed cubing.
