Concentration and Mastery on Display at Buurthuis Sportfondsen De Vleugel in DelftEnglish

The quiet focus inside Buurthuis Sportfondsen De Vleugel defined the scene as twenty-five competitors gathered for a day of intense mental calculation. Located in Delft, Netherlands, the venue provided a calm and methodical setting where solvers tackled the most intellectually demanding disciplines in speedcubing. Rather than the frantic clatter of conventional puzzles, the hall was dominated by deep concentration, blindfolds, and pages of written notations. On July 25, 2025, the venue hosted Mini Mental Delft 2025, welcoming specialists in memory and efficiency across seven rounds of top-tier competition.

The single-day WCA competition brought together five specialized events designed to push mental stamina to its absolute limits. Solvers took on blindfolded disciplines across multiple cube sizes alongside the deliberate challenge of solving with the fewest possible turns. The unique atmosphere inside the Delft community hall allowed participants to deliberate in silence, testing both memory recall and spatial reasoning. Across every round of Mini Mental Delft 2025, the standard of execution remained exceptionally high, delivering remarkable performances from both local Dutch competitors and international visitors.

In the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves discipline, where solvers spend sixty minutes crafting an optimal solution for the classic Rubik's Cube, Sebastiano Tronto of Italy secured first place among twenty-two participants. Tronto delivered a winning average of 23.33 moves, backed by a competition-best single of 22 moves. Jan Bentlage of Germany followed closely in second place with an average of 24.67, while Mattheo de Wit took third for the host nation with 27.33. Tronto doubled his gold tally in 5x5x5 Blindfolded, claiming victory with a time of 9:06.78 ahead of Ivo Stoutjesdijk in 9:58.96 and Michael Ngan in 10:38.00.

The 3x3x3 Blindfolded event featured two rounds of play and nineteen entrants, ultimately rewarding consistency over two rounds of play. Ivo Stoutjesdijk earned the top spot on the podium with a winning average of 39.23 seconds and a best single time of 19.69. Jens Haber of Germany finished in second place with a single time of 19.73, followed closely by Jorian Meeuse in third place with a 20.70 effort. The blindfolded 3x3 results demonstrated sharp memorisation routines and rapid execution under tournament conditions.

The larger blindfolded categories tested both physical endurance and expansive memory pathways. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, Jan Bentlage captured the title with a swift single of 4:50.47 across fourteen competitors, finishing ahead of Renske Idzenga in 7:13.49 and David Akerboom in 8:40.80. The demanding 3x3x3 Multi-Blind event saw Jorian Meeuse deliver an extraordinary performance, successfully resolving 43 out of 45 cubes within the one-hour time limit. Ivo Stoutjesdijk secured second place with 27 out of 33 cubes in 57:12, while Mattheo de Wit completed the podium with 25 out of 31 cubes in 1:00:00.

Beyond the podium places, several competitors marked major milestones during the weekend. Focco Postmus undertook five different disciplines, posting a personal best of 1:34.31 in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, which improved upon his previous mark by 31.8 percent. Postmus also completed his first ever official attempt in 5x5x5 Blindfolded with an 18:15.00 single, logged a flawless 5 out of 5 in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind in 30:13, and finished fifth overall in the 5x5x5 Blindfolded standings. Olivier Hugo Schrama entered three events, taking on his first career attempts in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind with a successful 2 out of 3 in 25:22 and 3x3x3 Fewest Moves with a 47-move solution, achieving a best overall finish of 14th place.

Other dedicated speed cubing entrants also expanded their competitive repertoire at the event. Maaike Versluis completed her first official venture into 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, submitting a solution of 55 moves to finish 21st. Roel Hoogeveen took on three disciplines and secured a top finish of 12th place in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves. Bram van der Wal also contested three events and matched that standing by placing 12th in 3x3x3 Fewest Moves. Meanwhile, Marc Dullemond entered two events at the venue, earning a best finish of 17th place in the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest.

By the close of Mini Mental Delft 2025, the host country led the overall medal haul with nine podium finishes, followed by Germany with three, Italy with two, and Hong Kong with one. The quiet intensity of Buurthuis Sportfondsen De Vleugel provided the perfect environment for a cubing competition centered on precision and patience. Solvers departed Delft having proven their capabilities against the stopwatch and the blindfold, bringing another memorable chapter of mental sports to a successful finish.

The collective achievements across Mini Mental Delft 2025 highlighted the depth of problem-solving skill present in the community. Whether discovering new events or refining long-practiced memory routines, every competitor contributed to the shared narrative of the tournament. The calm focus witnessed throughout the day in the Netherlands reaffirmed the enduring appeal of mental challenges on the international stage as solvers look ahead to the next season of competitive play.
