Mind Over Puzzle at Mental Breakdown Landvetter 2025English

Thirteen competitors gathered at the Landvetter Kulturhus on April 6, 2025, for a focused Sunday program that pushed mental endurance to its limits. Across six total rounds and five specialty disciplines, the single-day WCA competition showcased the analytical side of modern speedcubing. Staged in Landvetter, Sweden, the gathering bypassed standard speed-solving formats to spotlight blindfolded solving and methodical reconstruction, testing patience and memory over several intense hours of tournament play.

The morning schedule centered heavily on methodical calculation, starting with 3x3x3 Fewest Moves. Solving the classic Rubik's Cube with minimal rotations requires rigorous analysis rather than raw turning velocity. Theodor Nordstrand commanded the field of 13 entrants, delivering a single solve of 24 moves and securing the overall win with a mean of 25.33. Viktor Zenk claimed the second step on the podium with a 33.33 mean, while Emanuel Schelin followed closely in third position at 34.00 to complete the Swedish podium sweep.

Attention quickly transitioned to the memory disciplines as the 3x3x3 Blindfolded contest got underway across two competitive rounds. Out of 12 starters in the opening phase, William Jensen set the benchmark during the final round, locking down the victory with a winning average of 34.32 and a best single time of 26.16 seconds. Eskil Munthe claimed the runner-up spot with a best single of 26.84 seconds, while Igor Pertoso Lazdan from Canada secured third place with a 39.23 effort.

Midday brought the high-stakes endurance challenges, starting with the complex 4x4x4 Blindfolded event. With eight competitors taking on the larger four-layered puzzle without sight, precision was vital. Eskil Munthe conquered the solve path, logging the winning single of 4:35.10 to take first place. Lage Bonde followed in second position with a successful attempt of 5:29.22, while Isac Lindqvist completed the podium in third with an official time of 8:47.79.

Beyond the top podium spots, several individual breakthroughs highlighted the depth of the field in Landvetter. Xenia Lööv delivered significant personal progress, trimming her 3x3x3 Blindfolded personal best down to 2:30.07 from a previous 3:44.96 for a 33.3 percent improvement, alongside shaving her Fewest Moves personal best down to 31 moves to finish sixth. Viggo Martinsson tackled four separate events on the schedule, achieving a standout fourth-place finish in 4x4x4 Blindfolded.

The multi-cube segment raised the complexity even further as ten entrants tackled 3x3x3 Multi-Blind. Igor Pertoso Lazdan turned in a remarkable performance by memorising and solving 23 out of 25 cubes within a time of 55:48 to capture top honours for Canada. Lage Bonde took the second position on the podium with 16 out of 18 cubes solved in 50:21, and Eskil Munthe finished third by delivering 13 out of 15 cubes in 50:47.

The grueling 5x5x5 Blindfolded competition proved equally unyielding for the six competitors brave enough to attempt it. Navigating the sheer volume of memorisation required for a five-layered cube without vision proved unforgiving across the entire field. With all six registered entrants—Isac Lindqvist, Lage Bonde, Igor Pertoso Lazdan, William Jensen, Eskil Munthe, and Viktor Zenk—recording a DNF, the event served as a stark reminder of the technical difficulty inherent to top-tier speed cubing blind events.

As the day wrapped up, the final medal tally stood at 15 podium finishes for host nation Sweden and three for Canada. The specialized schedule provided a comprehensive showcase of brainpower, delivering exceptional moments alongside classic 3x3 results across complex formats. Mental Breakdown Landvetter 2025 concluded as a memorable cubing competition that tested the boundaries of spatial recollection and problem-solving execution in western Sweden.

The single-day meeting proved how compelling non-traditional formats can be within the wider community. Competitors left Landvetter Kulturhus having tested their focus against some of the most exacting events on the circuit, setting a high standard of determination as another season of competitive solving continues to unfold across the region.
