Niche Specialists Shine Across Ten Events at Medellín Explora 2025English

Jefferson Durango delivered the most striking result of the weekend by solving the Rubik's Cube without sight in a blistering single time of 23.67 seconds to secure the 3x3x3 Blindfolded title. The discipline demands complete memorisation before executing turns under a blindfold, and Durango mastered the single-round format with the only sub-30 second solution of the event. Carlos Miguel Pérez earned the runner-up spot with a time of 1:26.51, while Juan Manuel Rueda Jaramillo rounded out the podium at 2:28.71. It set the tone for an intense two days of speed cubing where precision and niche puzzle mastery took centre stage.

The competition, officially known as Medellín Explora 2025, unfolded on August 9 and August 10 at Parque Explora in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia. A total of 62 competitors assembled for 21 rounds across 10 official events in this high-profile WCA competition. Colombian solvers swept all 30 podium positions across the tournament, turning the weekend into an impressive showcase of regional talent. While the classic puzzle drew plenty of attention, the varied schedule highlighted non-standard events ranging from the mechanical alignment of Clock to the geometric transformations of Square-1 and Skewb.

Meanwhile, Julian Daza Grisales displayed sharp tactical execution in Square-1, winning the final with an average of 13.07 seconds and the only sub-ten single of the bracket at 9.91. Oliver Jared Zubieta Cuervo added another trophy by taking first place in Skewb with a 3.09 average.

The larger puzzles tested endurance and block-building efficiency. In 5x5x5 Cube, Juan Manuel Bedoya topped the field of 15 competitors in a direct final, clocking a winning average of 1:14.78 alongside a sharp single of 1:09.83.
