Organizers Deliver an Action-Packed Slate at Mashhad Winter 2024English

Arian Geravandi turned in one of the most dominant individual showings of the season, capturing three distinct titles including a blindfolded victory sealed by a 1:12.15 single solve. The standout performance anchored a demanding schedule at Golsa Sports Hall, where the organizing team, delegates, and dedicated volunteers kept twelve rounds of play moving smoothly across a single packed day. Staging six events for a field of 82 entrants required relentless coordination from the staff, who managed judging stations, scrambling desks, and score entry to create an exceptional platform for competitors in Mashhad (مشهد), Iran.

Behind every successful speedcubing tournament is an organizational backbone that ensures regulations are upheld and heats run on time. On February 15, 2024, the crew behind Mashhad Winter 2024 set up an efficient arena environment that handled everything from beginner rounds to high-stakes finals. Their diligence allowed participants across the region to focus purely on turning speed and technical execution. The smooth logistics made it possible for dozens of participants to cycle through multiple events without delay, underscoring the vital role tournament staff play in fostering the local speed cubing community.

The traditional 3x3x3 Cube event drew a tournament-high 77 entrants across three rigorous rounds of competition. Erfan Dehghani took the top step on the podium by putting together a 7.85 winning average in the final round, bolstered by a sharp 7.15 single. Mohammad Mahdi Khosravi claimed the runner-up position with an 8.90 mark, while Geravandi secured third place on a 9.12 average. The headline 3x3 results demonstrated remarkable consistency at the top of the bracket, rewarding the finalists who navigated three demanding tiers of qualifying to reach the ultimate round.

Geravandi expanded his medal haul across the larger mechanical puzzles, showing remarkable versatility on the competition floor. In the 4x4x4 Cube, he claimed first place with a 34.77 average, holding off Dehghani who finished second at 37.99 and Amirali Haghighianfard in third at 38.10. Moving directly to the 5x5x5 Cube final, Geravandi paced the 17-person field again, taking victory with a 1:10.76 average ahead of Alireza Namvar and Alireza Khazaei. His triple-gold performance across diverse events stood as the athletic benchmark of the meeting.

In the smaller rotation events, the 2x2x2 Cube saw Mohammad Reza Karimi top a 49-competitor field through three rounds, averaging 2.17 in the final to take first place over Saman Parvizi and Farid Fakhrian. The Pyraminx bracket delivered an exceptionally tight battle at the summit, where Mohammad Soroush Hoseini prevailed with a 3.50 winning average. Sepehr Lotfi finished just four hundredths of a second behind at 3.54 to secure the silver, while Fateme Vosoughi claimed bronze with a 3.76 mark in the final.

Away from the top of the podium, the tournament served as an ideal proving ground for competitors marking personal milestones. Ali Atarodi delivered massive improvements across two events, lowering his 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 2.53, a 75.3 percent drop from his previous 10.26 mark, and shaving his Rubik's Cube best down to 12.82. Ahoura Asadi achieved a 73 percent improvement in the Pyraminx with a new best of 4.12, down from 15.27, while also recording a 21.50 in 3x3x3 and 5.00 in 2x2x2.
