Specialists and Multi-Event Masters Shine at Maru Cube Day Taiwan 2024English

Inside the spacious hall of the Shin Kong Life Building in Tainan, Taiwan, the familiar rhythm of competitive cubing took over across August 3 and 4. Tables were lined with timers and mats as 222 competitors gathered for a packed weekend of speedcubing action. Before the main events took center stage, the floor belonged to the niche disciplines and complex puzzles that demand unique technical skill. Across 11 events and 26 distinct rounds, the gathering proved to be a vibrant festival of turning precision and problem-solving.

The specialized challenges set the tone for the entire cubing competition, starting with the dodecahedral Megaminx. Hong Kong competitor Andy Mok Man Cheuk demonstrated remarkable turning flow across 12 axes, securing the Megaminx title with a winning average of 40.68 seconds alongside a round-best single of 39.78. Taiwan competitors Yen-An Chen and Yi-Ho Hsueh pushed the pace closely behind him, claiming second and third on the podium with averages of 41.10 and 42.55 seconds respectively.

The Square-1 event offered another demanding test of shape-shifting mastery, where Yen-An Chen took top honors with a swift 6.99-second winning average and a best single of 6.23. Meanwhile, the corner-turning Skewb saw fierce exchanges at the top of the standings. Cian-Jyun Yang emerged victorious with a blistering 2.57-second winning average and a 1.89 single, finishing ahead of Kai-Lun Cheng who took second in 3.31 seconds and Wei-Ming Zeng in third with 3.35.

Pyraminx solvers also delivered rapid routines, led by Wei-Ming Zeng who claimed the championship title with a 2.62-second winning average and a sharp 1.95 single.
