Blindfolded Mastery and Polish Dominance Define Mallorca Open 2025English
Inside Sala Palmanova, the usual clatter of turning plastic paused whenever the blindfolds went on. Competitors stared at scrambled puzzles to lock sequences into memory before lowering their sight barriers to solve entirely in the dark. Across April 5 and April 6, the venue in Calvià, Mallorca, Spain hosted 89 participants taking on 17 events across 22 rounds. The atmosphere shifted continuously from rapid-fire speedcubing sprints to the deep, deliberate silence demanded by the memory disciplines.
The blindfolded category produced remarkable individual showcases throughout the weekend. United Kingdom competitor Adam Devere secured a trio of titles without sight. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event, Devere topped the 17-competitor field with a winning single time of 28.57 seconds. Devere then navigated the 4x4x4 Blindfolded discipline to capture first place with a mark of 4:45.99, finishing ahead of Spain solver Muxi Yan, who took second in 8:21.75, and Piotr Olszewski of Poland, who claimed third in 12:24.00.
Devere added a third memory victory in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, successfully resolving 14 out of 16 cubes within an official time of 56:30. In the longest blind event on the schedule, the 5x5x5 Blindfolded contest, Igor Tarasov of Ukraine demonstrated exceptional endurance to win with a single of 16:40.00. Tarasov also proved his versatility elsewhere by capturing the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves crown with a single of 23 moves and winning the Megaminx average at 40.55 seconds.
Outside the blindfolded events, Tymon Kolasiński delivered an imposing sequence of victories across five distinct formats. In the flagship 3x3x3 Cube event, Kolasiński led the 86-person field across three rounds, securing first place with a 4.98-second average and a single of 4.34. The Polish competitor swept the big cubes, winning 4x4x4 Cube in 20.91 seconds, 5x5x5 Cube in 37.54 seconds, 6x6x6 Cube in 1:17.27, and 7x7x7 Cube with an average of 2:01.71.
Beyond the top steps of the podium, several competitors made massive individual strides across multiple schedules. Alex Bolinches Ulicny made a remarkable leap in Square-1, shaving 56.6 percent off a previous best to hit 1:04.13, while also lowering their 3x3x3 One-Handed mark by 20.5 percent to 26.22 seconds and taking a first ever attempt at Clock in 45.71 seconds. Arturo José Sánchez Plaza improved their Skewb single by 52.6 percent down to 2.13 seconds, while recording first attempts at 5x5x5 Cube in 2:48.85 and Square-1 in 41.79 seconds. Jakub Ryba tackled 11 events, taking a first attempt at 7x7x7 Cube in 5:06.69, cutting their Square-1 time by 36.3 percent to 33.45, and dropping their 6x6x6 Cube single by 26.2 percent to 2:57.07. By the conclusion of the WCA competition, Ukraine led the overall podium standings with 21 placements, closely followed by Poland with 16 and the United Kingdom with 7. The 3x3 results and blindfolded achievements from Calvià established strong benchmarks for the 2025 season as the community looks ahead to future meets.
