Fast Progress and Big Solves Highlight Little LeideNxN 2025English

A blistering 6.52 average by Andrey Che to capture the 3x3x3 Cube title set the tone for an intense day of Rubik's Cube competition at Scouting St. Jozef. Che held off a relentless charge from Mika Smulders, whose 6.61 average took second place, while Ole Meindersma claimed third with an 8.09 average. The headlining contest wrapped up a dense single-day meeting where 47 competitors gathered to test their skills across six distinct events in Leiden, Netherlands on August 10, 2025.

The 2025 gathering at Little LeideNxN 2025 focused entirely on the NxN family of puzzles, putting fundamental turning speed, hardware control, and rapid algorithmic execution at center stage. With 11 total rounds played out from the small 2x2x2 Cube all the way up to the massive 7x7x7 Cube, the tournament allowed competitors of every experience level to measure their recent progress under official conditions. The energy in the venue was driven by a wave of developing speedcubing talents pushing down their personal benchmarks across multiple events.

Che added a second gold medal to his tally in the 2x2x2 Cube, topping a field of 41 participants with a winning average of 1.78 and a best single solve of 1.26. Ivo Stoutjesdijk finished close behind in second place with a 1.92 average, while Argentina's Luca Dalton secured the third step on the podium with a mark of 2.04. The short, explosive rounds on the pocket cube served as an energetic showcase of pure turning speed and visual inspection discipline.

The mid-sized cubes belonged to Mika Smulders, who delivered two commanding victories. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Smulders topped a 42-person lineup with a 27.06 average, ahead of Che's 27.62 and Stoutjesdijk's 30.02. Smulders repeated that success in the 5x5x5 Cube, producing a winning 47.95 average to lead Robin Teune, who registered 50.78, and Che, who recorded 51.67. Smulders demonstrated absolute composure across both multi-layered puzzles, executing difficult parity routines and piece pairing without hesitation.

Robin Teune took complete ownership of the heavy hardware, taking first place in both the 6x6x6 Cube and 7x7x7 Cube events. Teune won the 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:40.95 average, edging out Smulders at 1:47.15 and Amiel Engel at 1:50.29. In the 7x7x7 Cube, Teune registered a winning average of 2:48.59, finishing well clear of Stoutjesdijk at 3:01.87 and Mark Bennis at 3:17.97. Across these grueling longer events, endurance and lookahead proved decisive.

Beyond the podium battles, the open rounds revealed immense developmental steps from competitors steadily refining their craft. Hlib Dokiienko produced the day's most dramatic leap, recording a 5x5x5 Cube personal best of 1:35.46 that was 56.2 percent faster than his previous mark, while also setting personal bests of 9.19 in the 3x3x3 Cube and 2.17 in the 2x2x2 Cube. Jaimy van der Heijden completed six events on the day, taking 18th in the 7x7x7 Cube with an initial official time of 6:19.24, logging a first 6x6x6 Cube attempt of 3:51.05, and setting a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 10.59.

Ferdinand Post tackled six events, achieving a 16th-place finish in the 6x6x6 Cube with a personal best of 3:02.32, which improved on his previous mark by 29.5 percent, alongside a 17.5 percent drop in the 4x4x4 Cube to 45.76 and a first official 7x7x7 Cube attempt of 6:44.30. Ferre Poortier also took on all six disciplines, locking in a 10th-place finish in the 7x7x7 Cube on a first attempt of 4:44.21 while improving his 6x6x6 Cube best by 15.4 percent to 2:45.20. Tycho Kruithof recorded his first 7x7x7 Cube solve at 6:11.62 and lowered his 6x6x6 Cube best by 15.8 percent to 3:37.33, while Nils Derksen posted a 10.69 personal best in the 3x3x3 Cube, dropped his 2x2x2 Cube mark by 13.9 percent to 2.90, and completed his first 4x4x4 Cube attempt at 1:23.03.

The overall medal count reflected strong international competition, with Dutch solvers taking 13 podium places, Russian entrants claiming four, and Argentina earning one. The steady improvements across all rounds highlighted how dedicated practice in speed cubing is accelerating solve times across the continent. With official 3x3 results pushing deeper into the mid-six-second territory and newer participants dropping massive chunks of time on the larger puzzles, this WCA competition offered an exciting snapshot of a rising generation.

By the time the final timers were packed away, Little LeideNxN 2025 had delivered a comprehensive test of speed, versatility, and focus. As competitors left Leiden to prepare for the next cubing competition on the calendar, the standard of solving across every puzzle tier had visibly shifted higher, ensuring that the next season of tournament play will bring even tighter margins at the top of the table.
