Versatility Shines Across Nine Events at L'Eliana Open 2025English

David Sánchez Peris captured the marquee 3x3x3 Cube title with a sharp 7.83 second average, but the full breadth of L'Eliana Open 2025 went far beyond the standard puzzle. Held from June 7 to June 8 at the Escola Municipal de Persones Adultes in L'Eliana, Spain, the two-day tournament brought 47 competitors together to test their skills across 20 rounds. From lightning-fast side events to complex big cubes, the gathering demonstrated the full spectrum of modern speedcubing.

The 2025 event stood out for its remarkable balance across all nine featured disciplines. While the classic Rubik's Cube drew a competitive lineup of 44 contenders, the schedule gave equal weight to mechanical variety. Solvers navigated the turning geometry of Pyraminx and Skewb, mastered the dial shifts of Clock, and tackled the endurance demands of 4x4x4 Cube and 5x5x5 Cube, creating a vibrant cubing competition where versatility proved essential.

Sánchez Peris secured the 3x3 results summit after posting a 7.31 best single alongside his winning 7.83 average in the final round. Diego Serrano Martínez followed closely behind in second place with a 9.05 average, while Alberto Romero rounded out the podium at 10.15. The traditional three-layered puzzle set the competitive standard early on, yet the battle for titles across the alternative categories quickly became the central storyline of the weekend in L'Eliana, Spain.

Jaime Calzado Gomez delivered an exceptional multi-event campaign, claiming gold in two completely distinct disciplines. Calzado Gomez won Skewb with a 2.41 average, posting a single of 2.04 to outpace Alberto Romero at 5.56 and Diego Serrano Martínez at 5.61. He then pivoted directly to Clock, securing the top spot with a 5.10 average and a 4.20 single over Raúl Serrano Martínez and Rafa Diranzo Argatu. Calzado Gomez also collected third-place podium finishes in 2x2x2 Cube, Pyraminx, and 5x5x5 Cube.

Large cubes belonged entirely to Elies Qin Lloret Garcia, who dominated both intermediate and big cube brackets. Garcia claimed the 4x4x4 Cube victory with a 36.35 average, finishing ahead of Diego Serrano Martínez at 38.12. In the 5x5x5 Cube final, Garcia was the only competitor to break the one-minute mark, winning with an average of 58.41 and a 53.99 single. Meanwhile, Diego Serrano Martínez showcased his own range by winning 3x3x3 One-Handed in 15.10 and taking the 2x2x2 Cube crown with a 2.90 average, edging Asier Martín Poves by four hundredths of a second.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors made substantial breakthroughs across multiple disciplines. Marc Mora Garcia took on five events at L'Eliana Open 2025, recording first ever official attempts in Clock with a 25.46 and Skewb with a 23.05, while dropping their Pyraminx mark to 35.76, an improvement of 45.4 percent. Carles Faus tackled four events, recording a first Skewb attempt of 21.74, a first Clock attempt of 14.44, and a 2x2x2 Cube best of 3.69 that was 51.3 percent faster than before. Marceau Gayrard registered a first official Clock solve of 14.01, a first Skewb time of 6.62, and improved their 3x3x3 Cube personal best to 28.57.

The multi-event drive continued with Javier Casaus Rodríguez, who entered eight categories, posted a first official 5x5x5 Cube mark of 2:02.85, finished 5th in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, and lowered personal bests in Pyraminx to 3.76 and One-Handed to 32.44. Raúl Martínez Garzón posted a first 4x4x4 Cube attempt of 59.49, took 7th place in 3x3x3 Cube, and improved marks in Pyraminx to 4.30 and One-Handed to 24.98. David Bay Revert contested eight events, posting a first 5x5x5 Cube result of 3:41.97, an 18th-place finish, and personal best drops in Skewb to 7.69 and 4x4x4 Cube to 1:35.79.

Specialized events added further drama, highlighted by Muxi Yan taking victory in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a 1:01.95 single, navigating the memory requirements to finish ahead of the ten-person field. In Pyraminx, Héctor Sanchis Miedes averaged 3.13 to claim the title over Pau Tamarit Montalt and Jaime Calzado Gomez. This WCA competition highlighted how diverse the international speed cubing landscape has become, rewarding solvers capable of shifting seamlessly from rapid turning to deep technical control.

By the time the final awards concluded at L'Eliana Open 2025, Spain had collected 24 podium placements alongside two for China and one for Italy. Solvers walked away with major milestones, personal bests, and valuable round experience across the full slate of nine events. The weekend in L'Eliana reaffirmed that mastery in speedcubing is defined not just by raw speed on one puzzle, but by the versatility to conquer any challenge the table presents.
