Mean-of-Three Drama and Unrelenting Precision Define Landvetter Open 2023English

Inside Landvetter församlingshem, the distinctive clatter of turning plastic resonated across the tables as fifty-seven competitors gathered for two full days of high-stakes solving. Operating under the tournament lights, every competitor understood the delicate nature of the schedule, where 21 distinct rounds across 12 events would test endurance and concentration alike. The atmosphere at Landvetter Open 2023 was charged with anticipation, especially as the largest puzzles on the slate were introduced.

In the mean-of-three events, the margin for error was completely stripped away. Unlike the standard average format, where solvers can absorb a poor solve or an errant lockup by having their worst time trimmed from the final calculation, formats like the 6x6x6 Cube and 7x7x7 Cube demand three flawless executions in a row. A single misaligned layer, a momentary hesitation during parity, or an unrecoverable pop instantly derails the entire set, leaving no safety net for anyone who loses focus for even a second.

Edvin Jansson managed that precision masterfully on the big cubes, navigating the grueling mean format to secure a double victory. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Jansson posted a decisive winning average of 2:29.07, anchored by a best single solve of 2:16.29 across the 14-player field, outpacing Pep Edén who took second with 3:07.22 and Neo Friberg who took third with 3:08.78. Jansson followed that triumph in the 7x7x7 Cube, posting a winning mark of 3:39.02 with a best single of 3:13.01, ahead of Edén at 4:39.26 and Rasmus Händén at 5:24.24.

Beyond the big cubes, Jakob Gunnarsson authored an extraordinary run throughout the weekend in Landvetter, Sweden. Gunnarsson collected six total victories across the schedule, demonstrating unmatched versatility on August 5 and 6. In the classic 3x3x3 Cube, which drew a massive field of 56 participants through three rounds of speed cubing, Gunnarsson captured the title with a winning average of 8.66 and a best single of 6.44. Ludvig Nilsson followed closely in second place at 8.80, while Tor Torstensson finished third with an average of 9.27.

Gunnarsson continued his winning ways across a wide variety of events, taking the 2x2x2 Cube with a 2.04 winning average ahead of Pep Edén at 2.53 and Tor Torstensson at 3.22. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Gunnarsson topped the podium with a 33.79 average, while Edén finished second at 38.23 and Nilsson took third at 44.79. He also claimed victory in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 1:01.89 average, the 3x3x3 One-Handed event in 13.58, and the 3x3x3 Blindfolded division where a best single of 26.57 secured first place over Igor Pertoso Lazdan of Canada and Anders Berggren.

Away from the top of the podium, Landvetter Open 2023 provided a platform for substantial personal breakthroughs and brave first attempts. Freda Kaeßmann delivered one of the weekend highlights by shaving 57.6 percent off her previous mark in Pyraminx with a 6.27 personal best, while also recording first-ever competition attempts of 2:01.91 in the 4x4x4 Cube and 7.84 in the 2x2x2 Cube. Ludvig Asterholm showed remarkable development by dropping his Skewb personal best by 35.3 percent to 10.81, tackling seven events including a 1:08.13 first try in Clock, an 8.63 first try in the 2x2x2 Cube, and reaching 16th place in Square-1. Joel Westholm cut 35.1 percent off his Pyraminx time to hit 4.65, notched a 15.16 personal best on the standard Rubik's Cube, and logged a 9.38 on his first Skewb attempt.

The depth of improvement continued as Gustav Persson advanced his Pyraminx mark by 15 percent to 4.75, reached 10th place in that event, and posted debuts of 15.96 in Clock and 2:10.09 in the 4x4x4 Cube. Emma Ottosson competed across eight disciplines, earning 10th in Skewb while improving her 5x5x5 Cube best by 11.6 percent to 2:17.94, dropping her Pyraminx mark by 9.8 percent to 4.76, and putting up a 15.12 debut in Clock. Linus Ljungholm took on nine events, claiming 6th place in the 6x6x6 Cube alongside maiden marks of 4.92 in Pyraminx, 55.29 in the 4x4x4 Cube, and 15.19 in Skewb. Alfred Lindqvist logged debuts across three events with 17.68 in Skewb, 1:01.84 in 3x3x3 One-Handed, and 2:01.92 in the 4x4x4 Cube, while Elvin Eriksson finished 6th in Skewb and completed maiden official attempts in Clock at 25.08, Square-1 at 41.18, and the 6x6x6 Cube at 9:12.40.

The remaining events at this WCA competition showcased sharp tactical performances across the roster. Rasmus Händén secured two gold medals, capturing Clock with a 6.95 winning average and Skewb with a 4.95 mark. Ruben Lundquist emerged triumphant in Pyraminx with an average of 5.05, while Pep Edén earned the top spot in Square-1 with a winning average of 15.22. Host nation solvers carried the vast majority of accolades, collecting 35 podium positions over the course of the tournament.

As the final timers stopped and the tables were cleared at Landvetter församlingshem, the 2023 edition concluded having tested every facet of speedcubing discipline. From the absolute unforgiving nature of the big-cube means to the rapid-fire intensity of the 3x3 results, the competition rewarded steady nerves and technical preparation. For every competitor who stepped up to the mat, Landvetter Open 2023 offered a complete assessment of skill that will set the standard for the training cycles ahead.

Storkubarnas mästare glänste i Landvetter Open 2023Svenska
