Landvetter Cold Open 2025 Welcomes New Talents as Jensen and Edén Lead the FieldEnglish
Inside the halls of Landvetter Kulturhus on February 22, 2025, the rhythmic clack of plastic puzzles signaled a full day of action across nine official disciplines. Tables filled with timers and display mats were surrounded by competitors inspecting scrambled layers, while nervous newcomers sat side by side with seasoned veterans. A total of 45 competitors gathered in Landvetter, Sweden, ready to test their preparation through 15 separate rounds of play.
For those making early career appearances, the cubing competition provided an immediate introduction to the intensity and excitement of tournament play. Walking up to the solving station for the first time brings a distinct rush, from placing hands on the sensor pads to managing the brief inspection window. Taking on a WCA competition means turning home practice into measured stage results, and the energy in the room reflected that ambition across every age and skill level.
The spotlight shone brightly on several developing solvers who made enormous strides during the single-day gathering. Gustav Hollertz Bremborg entered five events and delivered massive progress, logging a first ever attempt at Clock with a mark of 14.39 while chopping his 2x2x2 Cube personal best down to 3.67, which was 63.4 percent faster than his previous mark of 10.02. He also improved his Skewb best to 6.60, cutting 48.8 percent off his prior 12.89. Nils Hansson tackled three events, registering his first ever attempt at Pyraminx with a 17.04 and his first ever attempt at 3x3x3 Cube with a 51.41, alongside a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 7.79 that was 26.6 percent faster than his past 10.62. Mio Erik Engel took on five events, recording a first ever attempt at Clock in 48.40, a Pyraminx personal best of 10.16 that improved by 41.3 percent on his previous 17.30, and a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 6.65. August Nylander competed in four events and surged in Clock, setting a personal best of 19.60 to outpace his old mark of 44.37 by 55.8 percent.
Other competitors similarly seized the moment to rewrite their personal records across multiple puzzles. Harry Skoog contested three events and lowered marks across the board, setting a Pyraminx personal best of 9.91 to beat his old 18.24 by 45.7 percent, a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 6.74 that was 36.8 percent faster than his previous 10.67, and a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 36.37 that improved on his previous 42.82 by 15.1 percent. Amadeus Eklund stepped up in three events to capture a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 4.90, cutting 52 percent from an earlier 10.20. Birgitta Zacharoff logged five events, taking on a first ever attempt at Skewb in 22.23, posting a 2x2x2 Cube personal best of 21.79, and lowering her 3x3x3 Cube best to 59.13 for a 12.4 percent drop from 1:07.50. Marko Puretic finished his two events with a sharp 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 38.04, improving on his former 57.79 by 34.2 percent.
At the top of the standings, William Jensen put together an extraordinary series of performances across multiple categories. In 4x4x4 Cube, Jensen secured the win with a 31.17 average and a best single of 24.76, finishing ahead of Pep Edén at 37.56 and Eskil Munthe at 43.15. Jensen also claimed top honours in Pyraminx with an average of 2.07 and Skewb with an average of 4.48, where Edén finished second with 4.93 and Munthe third with 5.26. He continued his winning run in Square-1 by averaging 12.25 ahead of Munthe and Viggo Martinsson.
The blindfolded events further highlighted Jensen's mastery of the classic Rubik's Cube mechanism without visual feedback. In 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where pure memorisation and spatial recollection dictate success, Jensen took first place with a single of 34.23, outlasting Munthe who posted a 35.86 and Alexander Nilsson at 58.84. In 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, Jensen matched that precision by successfully solving 13 of 15 cubes in 52:47, earning victory over Munthe, who achieved 13 of 15 in 55:09, and Viktor Zenk, who completed 12 of 14 in 55:30.
Short-format puzzles brought intense drama to the table during the speed cubing programme. William Gerdin earned the Clock title with a swift 3.28 winning average and a single of 2.79, prevailing over Jensen at 4.72 and Munthe at 5.28. In the 2x2x2 Cube event, Pep Edén led the field of 40 competitors by securing victory with an average of 1.24 and a best single of 0.92, finishing ahead of Jensen at 1.79 and Fabian Lönnkvist at 2.02.
The showcase 3x3 results crowned Edén once again at Landvetter Cold Open 2025. Across two rounds of 3x3x3 Cube featuring 44 competitors, Edén posted a winning average of 7.79 alongside a round-best single of 6.53 to take first place. Jensen took second on the podium with an 8.18 average, while Munthe claimed third with an 8.87. With Swedish competitors taking all 27 podium places awarded throughout the day, the competition celebrated both elite consistency and memorable personal milestones.
Specialisterna klev fram under intensiv lördag i LandvetterSvenska
