The high-stakes nature of speedcubing was evident across every bracket in Hammond, Louisiana, USA, where thirty-two participants gathered for an action-packed day of tournament play at LA Twist or Treat 2025.

The premier event of the cubing competition saw thirty-one solvers push through three demanding rounds of the classic Rubik's Cube. By the time the final round arrived, Teri McAcy maintained absolute control over the table. McAcy delivered a winning average of 8.06 seconds alongside a best single of 7.45 to secure the championship. Gunner Engelsman followed in second place with an average of 9.49 seconds, while RJ Gohn completed the podium in third place with a 9.92 average, putting an exclamation point on the weekend 3x3 results.

McAcy continued to dominate the competition across several other disciplines, demonstrating exceptional versatility and consistency throughout the day. In the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, which drew nineteen competitors across two rounds, McAcy secured top honors with an average of 11.78 seconds and a single of 8.52. Engelsman claimed the runner-up spot with an average of 16.25 seconds, narrowly staying ahead of Gohn, who earned third place with a mark of 16.37 seconds.

The big cubes featured single-round shootouts where error margins shrank to zero. McAcy swept both brackets in Hammond, taking first place in the 4x4x4 Cube with an average of 29.74 seconds and a best single of 27.00. Ordway Persyn finished second with a 39.27 average, while Dylan Girouard rounded out the podium at 42.00. Moving up to the 5x5x5 Cube, McAcy secured a fourth victory with an average of 49.78 seconds, finishing ahead of Persyn at 1:12.40 and Girouard at 1:19.79.

The remaining podiums at LA Twist or Treat 2025 delivered exciting battles in side events. Peyton Tumy navigated two rounds of Skewb to capture the gold medal with a winning average of 4.81 seconds and a rapid single of 2.76, outlasting Gohn at 5.76 and Jazer Farley at 6.43. In Square-1, Gohn topped an eleven-competitor field with an average of 11.24 seconds, edging out Engelsman at 11.49 seconds while Girouard earned third place with an average of 17.96.

Behind the top podium spots, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones away from the spotlight. Kason Taylor Hamblen entered five events and recorded massive leaps forward, shaving 33.3 percent off a previous mark in 5x5x5 Cube to set a personal best of 1:55.60, alongside a 3x3x3 Cube best of 9.04 and a 48.18 in 4x4x4 Cube. Jeremy Falanga also made significant strides across five events, improving by 31.6 percent in 5x5x5 Cube with a mark of 2:40.47 and cutting 30.7 percent in Skewb down to 11.70 seconds. Bradley Parker tackled six events, earning personal bests of 36.79 in Square-1, an improvement of 22.3 percent, and 27.85 in 3x3x3 One-Handed. Emma Young logged a personal best of 29.75 in 3x3x3 Cube, which was 15.5 percent faster than before.

Fresh faces and new event attempts also highlighted the depth of the field at this WCA competition. Ezra Aillet scored a 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 10.36 seconds, a 14.1 percent improvement. Nico Barrueto took on three events, logging a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 2:52.07 and a first Skewb attempt in 9.09. Julia Lauricella entered two events, recording a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with 1:27.67, and Blake Drews debuted in their first WCA tournament, entering four events and posting initial marks of 2:10.59 in 4x4x4 Cube and 46.06 in Square-1.

With eighteen podium positions swept by United States competitors across six categories, the tournament wrapped up an intense showcase of local talent.
