Kyiv NxN Summer 2025 Delivers Dominant Big Cube Sweeps and Blazing SprintsEnglish
Forty-eight competitors gathered in the capital across August 16 to August 17, 2025, turning the weekend into an intense showcase of puzzle mechanics and precision. Over 12 rounds of action at the Rivvorking venue in Kyiv, Ukraine, the tournament tested participants across eight separate events spanning short sprints, giant layers, and strategic challenges. Speedcubing requires fine control, efficient lookahead, and mechanical fluency across all disciplines, demanding that every competitor adapt quickly to different puzzle dimensions. Kyiv NxN Summer 2025 gave the Ukrainian speedcubing community a major platform to display their high-speed calculation and fingertip mastery across two full days of official competition.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a tournament-high field of 46 competitors across three hard-fought rounds. Lev Golub secured the top spot on the podium by delivering a consistent 7.26 winning average in the final round, highlighted by a sharp 6.96 best single. Ihor Sukhovatenko pushed the pace to claim the silver medal with a 7.41 average, while Oleksii Lasiichuk took bronze with an 8.60 mark. The high standard throughout the bracket showed how dense the talent pool was, with solvers maintaining fluid turn rates through complex last-layer algorithms to secure elite 3x3 results on the main stage.
Vladyslav Hryniuk produced one of the most prolific performances of the entire weekend, capturing four gold medals across the larger Rubik's Cube categories. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Hryniuk led the field of 32 solvers with a winning average of 27.54 and a single of 25.82, besting Golub, who logged 31.41 for second, and Sukhovatenko, who took third with 31.49. Hryniuk repeated his triumph in the 5x5x5 Cube, clocking a 54.39 winning average and a 50.10 single to edge Sukhovatenko and Golub. Managing the increased parity and heavy piece alignments of big cubes requires exceptional stamina and spatial awareness.
The heavy-puzzle mastery continued as Hryniuk swept the remaining big cube brackets in dominant style. In the 6x6x6 Cube final, he achieved a 1:36.93 winning average and a single of 1:32.18, finishing ahead of Lasiichuk at 1:55.08 and Sukhovatenko at 1:57.13. Taking on the massive 7x7x7 Cube, Hryniuk again outpaced the pack, winning with a 2:45.65 average and a 2:37.76 single. Lasiichuk took second with 3:03.79, while Golub completed the podium at 3:24.90. The four-event sweep highlighted Hryniuk's remarkable endurance across the longest solves on the schedule.
Beyond his big cube dominance, Hryniuk left an unforgettable mark on the 2x2x2 Cube by setting a new Ukrainian National record single of 0.82 seconds. The sprint event featured 35 competitors and ended in a thrilling final, where Danylo Dobrogorskyi took the championship with a 2.48 winning average and a 2.30 single. Ivanko Vyshnevskyi earned second place with a 2.54 average, while Hryniuk secured third with a 2.72 mark. The blistering pace of the 2x2x2 Cube rewards immediate inspection planning and lightning execution, making every tenth of a second critical to podium positioning.
The weekend also featured specialized non-cubic and cognitive disciplines that tested diverse solving methods. In the twelve-sided Megaminx, Oleh Korchan topped a 19-player field with a 37.65 winning average and a 33.83 single, overcoming Hryniuk at 42.45 and Golub at 45.53. In 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, where competitors spend an hour finding the shortest sequence without turning fast, Yurii Riabov took gold with a 22.67 winning average and a best single of 22 moves. Golub secured second with 30.33, while Modest Podzolkin earned third with 32.33 in an intellectually demanding showcase.
Away from the top podium steps, the competition served as a breakthrough stage for emerging talent dropping massive chunks of time. Platon Korobov chopped his 2x2x2 Cube personal best down to 1.49 seconds, an improvement of 53.1 percent, cut his 4x4x4 Cube mark to 50.76, and logged his first official 5x5x5 Cube solve at 1:50.90. Artem Sorochenko lowered his 2x2x2 Cube best by 40.8 percent to 6.25 and improved his 3x3x3 Cube best to 30.21. Volodymyr Baliuk tackled Megaminx for the first time with a 1:16.04 attempt and improved his 4x4x4 Cube personal best by 36.1 percent to 51.65. Artem Stryzhak delivered a 33.3 percent improvement on the 4x4x4 Cube with a 44.93 single while securing sixth in 7x7x7 Cube.
Other competitors took on brand new challenges across the weekend schedule, broadening their competitive ranges. Andrii Shatura tackled six events, recording his first official attempts at 6x6x6 Cube with 3:12.08 and 5x5x5 Cube with 1:12.67 while improving his 4x4x4 Cube time to 40.10. Petro Vorona took on his first official 4x4x4 Cube solve at 1:16.30 and his first 2x2x2 Cube attempt at 3.68.
