Kyiv Mega Blind Friends 2023

Inside the Friends room venue in Kyiv, Ukraine, the atmosphere on April 8, 2023, carried the distinct focus of memory sports and specialist puzzle disciplines. Tables were arranged with blindfolds, timers, and polyhedral puzzles as participants arrived ready for intense concentration. Speedcubing requires rapid calculation under pressure, but an event tailored to blindfolded solving and complex geometries demands an even sharper level of discipline. Thirteen competitors took their places at this cubing competition to test their personal limits across seven rounds of play.

The 2023 gathering put personal progression directly in the spotlight. Blindfolded solving relies heavily on precise spatial memorisation followed by execution without visual feedback, meaning every fraction of a second shaved off a previous best represents substantial mechanical and mental work. Throughout the day at Kyiv Mega Blind Friends 2023, participants delivered steady drops in their personal times, demonstrating how dedicated preparation translates onto the official WCA competition stage across five distinct events.

In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline, solving the classic Rubik's Cube without sight pushed the field to its limits across two full rounds. Bohdan Pylypchak secured the top step of the podium with a winning single time of 48.43 seconds, successfully leading the pack. Marharyta Dovbii followed closely in second place with a final round single of 52.38 seconds, after having registered a remarkable 33.30 single earlier in the schedule. Yurii Riabov earned third place with a single solve of 2:12.88.

Beyond the podium battles, significant development was evident across the roster at Kyiv Mega Blind Friends 2023. Daniel Tsyporin took on three events during the tournament and delivered an outstanding performance on Megaminx, clocking a personal best single of 1:27.51, which cut down his previous mark of 2:03.91 by 29.4 percent, while also earning a fourth-place finish in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a 2:39.70 single. Ivan Kovach concentrated on a single event, locking in fifth place in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a sharp 1:49.21 single solve.

The multi-layered puzzles brought extensive challenges of their own, where larger blindfolded solves require tracking a vast number of piece combinations. Bohdan Pylypchak captured his second victory of the meet in the 4x4x4 Blindfolded event, posting a decisive winning single of 4:17.61. Serhii Mormul claimed the silver position with an 8:35.60 effort. In the massive 5x5x5 Blindfolded contest, Serhii Mormul stood alone at the top of the table by completing the single successful solve of the round in 16:26.00.

Complex memorisation reached its peak in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, where competitors attempt multiple puzzles in a single timed attempt. Marharyta Dovbii delivered an exceptional performance, successfully solving 10 out of 10 cubes within a time limit of 51:32 to take first place. Georgiy Titov secured second position with a clean 3 out of 3 cubes in 15:51, while Yurii Riabov completed a flawless 2 out of 2 cubes in 9:28 for third.

Away from the blindfolds, speed cubing technique was tested on the twelve-sided Megaminx. Ihor Sukhovatenko dominated the competition across two rounds, taking the victory with an average of 43.11 seconds and a rapid single of 40.42. Georgiy Titov finished in second place with an average of 1:03.01, barely edging out Yurii Riabov who took third place on the podium with a 1:03.74 average.

The one-day meet concluded with all twenty podium positions earned by competitors representing Ukraine. From classic blindfolded 3x3 results to the patience required for high-order blindfolded solving, Kyiv Mega Blind Friends 2023 highlighted how technical development and memory work drive measurable improvement on the official circuit as competitors look forward to the next season.
