Lev Golub Dominates the Tables as Kyiv Blind Side 2024 Celebrates Ukraine SpeedcubingEnglish
Lev Golub put on a masterclass at Kyiv Blind Side 2024, claiming the premier 3x3x3 Cube title with a remarkable 8.21 second final average and a blazing 6.64 single. The standout performance anchored an action-packed weekend of speedcubing in Kyiv, Ukraine, held at the Rivvorking venue on September 21 and 22, 2024. Beyond the sheer pace of the main event, the gathering brought together 46 competitors across 11 different disciplines and 16 rounds of intense, friendly competition.
While the main stage drew plenty of attention, the tournament lived up to its name by putting non-standard disciplines front and centre. Between main rounds, participants clustered around tables to share techniques for complex side events and blindfolded challenges. The unique schedule created an inviting environment where seasoned veterans and emerging solvers could trade advice on everything from memory techniques to efficient finger tricks. Speed cubing in the capital showcased not just rapid execution, but the tight-knit bonds that define the regional puzzle community.
The blindfolded disciplines delivered some of the most engrossing drama of the entire cubing competition. Bohdan Pylypchak swept the individual blind categories, capturing victory in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a 39.35 single, dominating 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 3:17.62, and taking 5x5x5 Blindfolded with an 8:58.45 result. In 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, Serhii Mormul secured top honours by successfully solving a perfect 3 out of 3 cubes in 9 minutes and 52 seconds. These memory-intensive events rewarded deep concentration and drew immense appreciation from fellow participants throughout the hall.
Beyond his main Rubik's Cube victory, Lev Golub showcased incredible versatility across several formats. Golub took first place in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a smooth 12.35 average and topped the Skewb table with a winning mark of 3.50 seconds. In the Pyraminx event, Mykhailo Akhunov captured the crown with an impressive 3.24 average, finishing ahead of Golub and Danylo Dobrogorskyi. Dobrogorskyi had his own moment at the top of the podium in Clock, taking the win with a 5.17 average.
Other classic and tactical events rounded out the diverse weekend lineup. Oleh Korchan demonstrated superb endurance on the dodecahedron, winning Megaminx with an average of 40.39 seconds and a best single of 36.12. In 3x3x3 Fewest Moves, Yurii Riabov displayed outstanding efficiency by finding a 23-move single solution on his way to a 25.00 average victory.
