A Tenth of a Second Decides Blindfolded Glory at Korea Open 2025English

A single tenth of a second stood between triumph and second place in the 3x3x3 Blindfolded final, providing the sharpest drama of the entire weekend. JiHun Yim secured the top spot with a winning single of 23.28 seconds, narrowly edging out Ko Youngjin, who registered a blistering 23.38 seconds across the two rounds. Jaehyun Jeong claimed the third podium position with a time of 40.84 seconds. Memorisation and execution without sight always carry severe risk, and this razor-thin separation underlined the precision on display across the entire roster.

Held from August 15 to August 17, 2025, at the Bohun Rehabilitation Health Center in 경기도 수원시 (Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do), Korea, the Korea Open 2025 gathered 353 competitors across 13 events and 35 total rounds. Fans and participants following the Rubik's Cube circuit witnessed a massive turnout that challenged both experienced finalists and determined newcomers. The tournament delivered high-calibre speedcubing battles from the opening heats through to Sunday evening finals.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew a massive field of 306 entrants battling across four intense stages of elimination. In the final round, Zhaokun Li from China captured the title with a winning average of 5.71 seconds, highlighted by a best single of 5.43 seconds. Seung Hyuk Nahm of Korea finished second with an average of 6.10 seconds, while Kyeongmin Choi took third place averaging 7.29 seconds. The official 3x3 results marked one of the fastest collective podiums seen this season.

Beyond the main event, Seung Hyuk Nahm established complete command over the bigger twisty puzzles and specialised categories. Nahm swept five individual titles, topping the podium in 4x4x4 Cube with a 21.87 average, 5x5x5 Cube in 38.79 seconds, 6x6x6 Cube in 1:12.28, and 7x7x7 Cube with a mark of 1:46.24. He also claimed first place in 3x3x3 One-Handed with an average of 10.13 seconds, completing a remarkable showcase of versatility and stamina across the heavier hardware.

In other disciplines, Kyeongmin Choi collected two gold medals, pairing a lightning-fast 1.43 average to win 2x2x2 Cube with a 29.61 winning average in Megaminx. The Pyraminx final went to Seung-Ho Song, who posted an average of 2.17 seconds. Lee Seong Vin took first in Clock with an average of 3.48 seconds, Coral Yuxin Cai earned the Skewb title with an average of 2.48, and Jaehyuk Lee prevailed in Square-1 with a 7.71 average. Host nation Korea captured 34 total podium placements, with Taiwan claiming 3 and China securing 2.

Away from the top steps of the podium, numerous participants took on grueling schedules and expanded their competitive repertoires. Park Si Eun entered 12 events and logged initial official marks in three distinct categories: 3:25.86 in 6x6x6 Cube, 52.79 in Square-1, and 5:26.49 in 7x7x7 Cube. Won Jae Choi contested all 13 categories on offer, delivering initial marks of 2:34.09 in 6x6x6 Cube, 2:56.89 in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, and 4:21.61 in 7x7x7 Cube. Jihong Yun also completed the full slate of 13 events, setting first official results in Pyraminx at 7.25 seconds, Skewb at 22.98 seconds, and Megaminx at 2:34.70. These multi-puzzle efforts captured the true breadth of speed cubing culture.

As the final timers stopped, the Korea Open 2025 concluded three days of relentless competition in Suwon-si. Across 35 rounds and hundreds of solves, the cubing competition showcased exceptional performances ranging from hundredths-of-a-second blindfolded battles to extensive multi-puzzle endurance tests. With 353 competitors leaving their marks on the scoreboards, this WCA competition confirmed the depth and vitality of the sport heading into the next stretch of the calendar.
