Mohith B and Vishesh Shetty Clash for Silverware at Karnataka Cube Championship 2024English

A four-event sweep by Mohith B established regional dominance at the table, capped by a commanding 9.14-second winning average in the 3x3x3 Cube to conclude an intense weekend of puzzle racing. The three-day clash brought 166 competitors to Jain Heritage School from November 16 to 18, generating 36 rounds of action across 13 distinct disciplines. The Karnataka Cube Championship 2024 served as an arena for spirited geographic rivalry, pitting prominent local contenders from India against sharp overseas speedcubing talent representing the United States.

Across the schedule, podium finishes split decisively between nations, with competitors from India amassing 31 top-three spots against 8 claimed by representatives of the USA. The marquee 3x3 results encapsulated this competitive dynamic. Mohith B held off seasoned national peer Hitesh Kumar Bhuwalka, who secured second with a 9.88 average, and Dhruv Thirumalairajan, who rounded out the podium at 10.23. The classic Rubik's Cube drew a massive field of 150 solvers across four elimination rounds, testing stamina and precision.

The transatlantic duel peaked during the rotation puzzle finals. Vishesh Shetty led an American double-podium assault in both Skewb and Clock, demonstrating extraordinary turn speed to edge regional challengers. In Clock, Shetty secured gold with a 4.36 average, followed by compatriot Aarush Vasanadu at 6.83 and Krishanth Thangarathan in third at 7.08. Shetty repeated the feat in Skewb with a 3.79 winning mark, holding off Vasanadu at 5.63 and Mohith B at 5.78, proving that visiting speed cubing athletes could disrupt local favourites in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Mohith B struck back decisively in the shorter formats, claiming first place in 2x2x2 Cube with a 2.79 average over Shriansh Deb and Reuben John Kumar. That dominance carried over to Pyraminx, where Mohith B recorded a 3.87 average and a 1.34 single, before taking gold in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a 15.39 average. The second iteration of the Karnataka Cube Championship 2024 showcased how versatile single-handed and quick-turn specialists can control a major cubing competition schedule.

Behind the fight for silverware, individual breakthroughs across the field revealed significant progress away from the main podiums. Saumyajeet Rai took on eight separate events, logging a first career 4x4x4 Cube attempt in 1:57.71 and a debut Clock single of 30.70, while slashing their Skewb personal best to 17.93, an improvement of 51.8 percent over their previous 37.23 mark. Dhruv Anand also entered eight disciplines, securing a ninth-place finish in 4x4x4 Cube and logging initial official marks in 6x6x6 Cube at 2:53.19, 3x3x3 One-Handed at 26.68, and Skewb at 7.32. Anirudh Madagundi contested eight events, placing twelfth in 4x4x4 Cube, posting debut marks of 3:12.89 in 6x6x6 Cube and 1:25.04 in Megaminx, and lowering their 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 23 percent to 9.88.

Other dedicated solvers marked their own milestones across diverse categories. Athiraksh Ashok tackled five disciplines, recording first official tournament times in 3x3x3 Cube at 25.57, Pyraminx at 9.94, and Clock at 14.71. Bright Biju Cherian contested three events, establishing first-time marks in 2x2x2 Cube at 4.52 and 3x3x3 One-Handed at 30.79, alongside a 42.6 percent reduction in their 3x3x3 Cube record to 12.76. Hrishit Goyal took on three events, posting a debut Pyraminx solve of 15.05, cutting their 2x2x2 Cube mark by 47.4 percent to 7.17, and slicing their 3x3x3 Cube best down by 55.4 percent to 23.59.

The larger puzzles produced another compelling intra-state contest between Hitesh Kumar Bhuwalka and Dhruv Thirumalairajan. Bhuwalka captured three titles across the weekend, topping the 4x4x4 Cube with a 31.82 average, taking Square-1 in 19.42, and capturing the 6x6x6 Cube with a 1:42.57 mark. Thirumalairajan answered in the biggest formats, claiming the 5x5x5 Cube title in 55.88 and prevailing in 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:37.12 average, relegating Bhuwalka to second in both finals.

Specialty categories highlighted technical mastery across different disciplines. In Megaminx, Arush Singh navigated two rounds of twelve-sided solving to claim victory with a 41.93 average. The 3x3x3 Blindfolded competition demanded memory and spatial control under isolation, where Zain Behzaad earned the gold with a fast 24.72 single solve, outperforming Gaurav Bachani and Reuben John Kumar. The results underlined how complete modern competitors must be across varied formats.

As the final timers stopped, the Karnataka Cube Championship 2024 left a distinct imprint on the 2024 calendar. From rapid skirmishes in short puzzles to methodical big cube encounters, the WCA competition highlighted a thriving local scene capable of testing elite international competitors. The rivalries forged on the floor set an exciting foundation for the upcoming tournament season across India.
