Record Clocks and Varied Puzzles Define Kärnan Open 2026 in HelsingborgEnglish
Ruben Norén Gustafsson delivered the standout moment of the weekend by setting a Swedish national record single of 2.15 seconds in Clock, igniting an action-packed schedule at Maria Församlingshus. The performance highlighted a packed program of twelve official events at Kärnan Open 2026, held from October 3 to October 4, 2026. Across two full days in Helsingborg, Sweden, competitors tackled everything from classic twists to high-order layers, blindfold challenges, and efficiency puzzles, demonstrating the full breadth of modern speedcubing.
The diversity of events tested competitors across entirely different skill sets, moving rapidly between lightning-fast sprints, intricate mechanical alignments, and deep analytical problem-solving. While short-format categories demanded pure reflex, extended formats required sustained mental stamina and memory work. Organizers assembled a program that celebrated the sheer variety of the discipline, drawing entrants from across the region to compare their skills across multiple disciplines under the official standards of the World Cube Association.
In the classic 3x3x3 Cube, the 3x3 results saw a thrilling international battle at the top of the standings. Adrien Auvray Matyn of New Zealand secured the title with an average of 7.14 seconds, finishing just one hundredth of a second ahead of Sweden's Frank Lindblom, who claimed the runner-up spot in 7.15 seconds. Eskil Munthe completed the podium in 8.03 seconds, concluding an exceptionally tight race for the standard Rubik's Cube crown.
Frank Lindblom had an outstanding weekend across multiple short formats, taking first place in the 2x2x2 Cube with an average of 1.45 seconds over Ruben Norén Gustafsson's 1.47 and Henning Reuter's 2.21. Lindblom added another victory in 3x3x3 One-Handed with a winning mark of 12.05 seconds, leading Adrien Auvray Matyn at 13.62 seconds and Eskil Munthe at 15.88 seconds. Meanwhile, Ruben Norén Gustafsson secured the 4x4x4 Cube victory with a time of 31.60 seconds, ahead of Lindblom's 32.12 and Pep Edén's 32.77.
Beyond the speed events, the competition showcased elite memory and efficiency disciplines. Eskil Munthe dominated the blindfolded categories, winning the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event in 22.45 seconds, well ahead of Ville Vasilis at 45.32 and Ruben Norén Gustafsson at 48.67. Munthe also topped the 3x3x3 Multi-Blind standings by successfully solving 19 out of 21 cubes in 53:26, followed by Vasilis with 11 out of 14 in 55:27 and Callum James Goodyear-Jørgensen with 6 out of 7 in 34:09. Munthe further extended his winning tally by capturing the 5x5x5 Cube title in 59.11 seconds.
