Kantaro Sakamoto and Wataru Takamiya Lead Fast Morning at Kanto Summer AM 2025English

Inside Ota Ward Plaza on August 30, 2025, the competition hall buzzed with focused energy as 84 speedcubing competitors gathered under the bright venue lighting. Inspection timers flashed across the tables, plastic pieces clicked in relentless cadence, and judges watched hands move through fingertricks in absolute silence. The compact morning schedule in Ota, Tokyo, Japan brought a dedicated lineup of solvers ready to push their personal benchmarks across two classic events.

Speed cubing tests precision and dexterity across various formats, demanding subtle fingertricks and total command over turning mechanics. Mastery of the standard Rubik's Cube requires an intricate balance of lookahead and ergonomic efficiency, where a single mistimed flick can alter the flow of an entire solve. At Kanto Summer AM 2025, that mechanical discipline was on full display throughout every station in the room, proving how technical mastery transforms simple turns into fluid speed.

In the flagship 3x3x3 Cube contest, 79 competitors lined up across two rounds of intense competition to decide the overall title. Kantaro Sakamoto produced the standout run of the morning, taking first place with a winning average of 7.03 seconds alongside a best single of 6.03 seconds. Yoshiki Ando secured second place on the podium with an average of 7.94 seconds, while Sho Ogata claimed third place with an average of 8.35 seconds to round out the 3x3 results.

The 2x2x2 Cube event brought quick-fire action across its two rounds as 68 competitors tackled the miniature puzzle. Wataru Takamiya captured the championship with a blistering winning average of 2.38 seconds and an event-best single of 1.68 seconds. Raiden Reynolds finished as the runner-up with an average of 2.56 seconds, while Kantaro Sakamoto returned to the podium to take third place with an average of 2.67 seconds.

Beyond the top steps of the podium, Kanto Summer AM 2025 served as a proving ground for competitors setting notable personal milestones. Itsuki Hori recorded a dramatic 54.6 percent improvement on their 2x2x2 Cube personal best with a 1.69 single, finishing 10th in the event, and also lowered their 3x3x3 Cube best to 9.44 seconds, a 9.9 percent drop. Roberto Atsuhiro Sanada tackled two events, delivering a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 3.98 seconds while slashing 35.4 percent off their 3x3x3 Cube personal best with a 12.26 mark. Kosuke Ito secured a 20th place finish in 2x2x2 Cube on a first ever attempt of 2.40 seconds, alongside a 32.2 percent improvement on 3x3x3 Cube to 10.99 seconds.

Other competitors delivered equally impressive gains across both disciplines during this WCA competition. Souichirou Ashida logged a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 4.96 seconds while shaving 29.1 percent off their 3x3x3 Cube best to hit 11.57 seconds. Yamato Sugita recorded a 20th place finish in 3x3x3 Cube with a personal best of 8.31 seconds, an improvement of 17.2 percent, and completed a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 5.34 seconds. Ryota Takahashi registered a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 6.76 seconds and improved their 3x3x3 Cube mark by 17.1 percent to 29.21 seconds. Ayaka Fayka Kusumah delivered a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 3.59 seconds and a 13.1 percent personal best improvement in 3x3x3 Cube at 18.84 seconds, while Yuta Imai posted a first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube of 5.85 seconds and lowered their 3x3x3 Cube best by 11.9 percent to 21.11 seconds.

Across four rounds of scheduled play, the cubing competition showcased relentless consistency from the Japanese contingent, who swept all six available podium spots across the morning. From the early preliminary heats to the tense concluding solves, participants made every second count against the clock.

The successful conclusion of Kanto Summer AM 2025 highlighted the deep technical execution present across both events on the schedule. With sharp times logged and numerous individual milestones achieved in Ota, competitors departed with fresh experience to build on as the 2025 tournament calendar moves ahead toward the next season.
