Hayakawa and Udou Lead the Way at Kanto Autumn AM 2025 in TokyoEnglish
A field of 70 competitors assembled in Ota, Tokyo, Japan for Kanto Autumn AM 2025, taking on a tight morning schedule packed with top-tier solving. With four rounds spread across two classic disciplines, the single-day gathering on October 11, 2025, tested both raw mechanical execution and intense mental stamina. Speedcubing in this format offers little room for hesitation, demanding sharp focus from the very first scramble to the concluding solves of the final round.
The 3x3x3 Blindfolded event served as the ultimate showcase of pure concentration, requiring competitors to commit the puzzle state to memory before completing the solve without sight. With 28 competitors stepping up to the challenge across two rounds, Keita Hayakawa delivered the standout performance of the event. Hayakawa secured first place on the strength of an 18.64 single, holding off a competitive field where memorisation discipline proved decisive. Masato Fujiwara took second place with a single of 20.80, while Akito Takei finished third in 30.30 to complete an all-Japan podium.
The standard 3x3x3 Cube contest brought together 64 competitors for two full rounds of high-speed solving on the classic Rubik's Cube. Kounosuke Udou captured first place in the final, putting together an 8.40 winning average alongside a best single of 7.07. Udou navigated a tightly contested final round where fractions of a second separated the top spots. Sho Kashiyama claimed the runner-up position with an 8.57 average, and Masaya Nakamoto earned third place by recording an 8.91 average across the five-solve sequence.
Beyond the podium battles, Kanto Autumn AM 2025 provided an important platform for competitors making significant strides in their individual speed cubing journeys. Ryuichi Hayase took on two events and achieved a 10th-place finish in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, logging a personal best single of 1:22.62 that was 44.4 percent faster than his prior mark of 2:28.65, in addition to a 12.04 personal best in the 3x3x3 Cube. Every cubing competition tests preparation and mental resilience, but the concentrated structure in Tokyo highlighted how much preparation goes into every second of official solving. The 2025 calendar continues to provide venues where both seasoned veterans and developing solvers can measure their progress under official WCA competition conditions, whether solving at lightning speed with eyes wide open or quietly mapping out piece cycles in total darkness.
With the four rounds completed and all six podium positions claimed by Japanese competitors, Kanto Autumn AM 2025 demonstrated the ongoing depth and technical proficiency present in the region. As competitors review their splits and prepare for the next season of tournament play, the memory of fast blindfolded turns and sub-nine final averages will set the benchmark for upcoming challenges across the country.
