Li and Takaoka Deliver Masterful Performances at Kansai Parity Party 2025English

A total of 73 competitors gathered in Daito, Osaka, Japan, for Kansai Parity Party 2025, bringing high-level puzzle solving to the floor across 8 competitive rounds on August 24, 2025. Fans of precision puzzle solving often look to specialized events to appreciate the technical mastery of table turning, ergonomic grips, and algorithm execution. While classic speedcubing showcases two-handed speed on the traditional Rubik's Cube, specialized events test an entirely different dimension of foresight and dexterity.

The single-day WCA competition brought together an eager roster of talent contesting three distinct events. Spectators tracking the overall cubing competition action and checking regular 3x3 results across the circuit found this specialized meet focused tightly on big cubes and shape-shifting puzzles. Across the day, competitors navigated complex edge pairing and shape preservation, managing parity algorithms that frequently decide podium positions in tense final rounds.

In the 4x4x4 Cube, Hong Kong competitor Ivan Li Ka Leong put together a commanding performance over 3 rounds of play against a field of 65 competitors. Li captured first place with a winning average of 24.33 seconds, complemented by the best single of the entire event at 21.33 seconds. Kohdai Kusatani of Japan secured the second step on the podium with an average of 28.91 seconds, while Makoto Takaoka claimed third place with a mark of 29.43 seconds.

Li continued his dominant run in the 6x6x6 Cube, leading 47 competitors across 2 rounds to take his second championship of the day. Registering a winning average of 1:20.80 alongside a best single of 1:17.96, Li built a decisive margin over the rest of the field. Fellow Hong Kong solver Andy Mok Man Cheuk finished second with an average of 1:38.04, while Tomohiro Kobayashi of Japan took third place with an average of 1:40.33.

The Square-1 competition saw Makoto Takaoka emerge on top among 44 competitors across 3 rounds. Takaoka secured victory with a winning average of 7.42 seconds, which was paired with the event best single solve of 6.87 seconds. Yasunari Kumekawa took the runner-up spot for Japan with an average of 8.09 seconds, and Sotaro Hayashi rounded out the all-Japan podium in third place with an average of 10.21 seconds.

Beyond the top podium spots, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across the schedule. Rintaro Koide took on two events, earning a personal best single of 11.30 seconds in Square-1, which was 36.2 percent faster than his previous best of 17.72, and finished 16th while logging a first ever attempt of 1:23.56 in 4x4x4 Cube. Masaaki Kobayashi entered three events, achieving a 4x4x4 Cube personal best of 57.48 seconds that improved upon his prior 1:13.01 mark by 21.3 percent, alongside first attempts of 32.57 seconds in Square-1 and 7:08.33 in 6x6x6 Cube.

Other solvers expanded their repertoire significantly throughout the weekend program. Ryosei Yamada tackled three events, earning 14th place in Square-1 with a debut mark of 10.63 seconds, while recording first attempts of 56.59 seconds in 4x4x4 Cube and 3:34.48 in 6x6x6 Cube. Taiki Nakatani registered debut single times across three events, posting 42.86 in 4x4x4 Cube, 20.80 in Square-1, and 2:54.23 in 6x6x6 Cube. Reno Kamio similarly took on three events, posting debut solves of 33.95 in 4x4x4 Cube, 16.65 in Square-1, and 2:17.59 in 6x6x6 Cube, while Kenji Kawashima completed three events with debut marks of 1:23.48 in 4x4x4 Cube, 47.74 in Square-1, and 5:05.25 in 6x6x6 Cube.

The overall country medal breakdown reflected a total of 6 podium spots for host nation Japan and 3 podium spots for Hong Kong. Through clean solving and efficient parity management, Kansai Parity Party 2025 demonstrated the immense depth of talent currently active in speed cubing across the region, closing out a fast-paced day of top-tier competition in Daito for the 2025 season.
