Kobayashi and Nomura Lead Record-Breaking Slate at Kansai BLD Summer 2026English
A scintillating national record of 2:36.84 in the 4x4x4 Blindfolded average by Naoto Kobayashi set the defining standard at Kansai BLD Summer 2026. Held in Daito, Osaka, Japan on June 6, 2026, the single-day gathering brought 41 competitors together across five specialized events. Kobayashi delivered a command performance throughout the weekend, capturing the 4x4x4 Blindfolded title with a winning single of 2:03.42, while also climbing the podium in two other blind events to establish himself as the most dominant force in the venue.
The 4x4x4 Blindfolded final showcased Kobayashi at his very best, pairing his national record average with a decisive 2:03.42 best single to lead the 20-person field. Yuki Yamamoto followed in second place with a time of 2:59.46, while Teruki Tamura rounded out the podium in 3:04.18 across the two rounds of blindfolded solving. Kobayashi was far from finished, mounting further podium challenges in both 5x5x5 Blindfolded and 3x3x3 Blindfolded to anchor a remarkably versatile campaign.
In the 5x5x5 Blindfolded event, which drew 18 entrants across two rounds, Yuki Yamamoto claimed the top spot with a best single of 5:52.24. Kobayashi followed closely behind to take second place in 7:02.73, and Hiroto Fujita secured third with a mark of 9:32.37. The demanding memorization and execution required for big-cube blindfolded solving kept the competition fierce, with Yamamoto and Kobayashi trading top positions across the long-distance disciplines.
The 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline saw international visitor Qiuchi Sang capture victory with a winning single of 24.15 among 29 competitors. Yamamoto earned his third podium finish of the meet by taking second place with a single of 27.44, while Kobayashi secured third in 36.00. While standard 3x3 results usually dominate mainstream speed cubing discussion, the sightless variant provided high drama across two complete rounds as solvers navigated the classic Rubik's Cube without visual cues.
Beyond the blindfolded categories, Yuki Nomura delivered another massive highlight by setting a Japanese national record average of 25.90 to win the 4x4x4 Cube. Nomura added a best single of 24.09 to lead the 29-person lineup. Takumi Kawazoe finished runner-up with an average of 30.17, while Takeru Iguchi took third in 31.12. Kawazoe then rebounded in the Pyraminx event, capturing the gold medal with a winning average of 3.95 and a single of 2.76, edging Takumi Kato at 4.31 and Muku Mitera at 4.38.
Behind the podium battles, several competitors achieved remarkable milestones across their chosen schedules. Kazuki Senda tackled three disciplines, achieving a 15th-place finish in Pyraminx with a personal best of 5.13 that was 48.5 percent faster than his previous best of 9.96, while also recording a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:26.48. Haru Watanabe entered three events, logging a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 52.51 to place 20th and slicing 34.7 percent off his Pyraminx personal best with a time of 8.86 compared to his prior 13.57 mark.
The personal breakthroughs continued with Akitsugu Nakamura, who entered three events and finished fourth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded on his first ever attempt with a mark of 32.92, alongside a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 44.48. Yu Yamasaki made first attempts in both 4x4x4 Cube with 1:10.56 and Pyraminx with 12.24. Yuma Yamano took on two blind categories, logging a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Blindfolded in 10:28.00 and a 3x3x3 Blindfolded debut of 1:27.40. Kento Hirai had a standout day across three events, posting a 3x3x3 Blindfolded personal best of 54.85 that was 38.7 percent faster than his former 1:29.47, a 4x4x4 Cube best of 33.65 that was 6.7 percent faster, and a sixth-place finish.
With eight total rounds held across five events, Kansai BLD Summer 2026 proved to be an outstanding showcase of technical speedcubing mastery. Japan claimed 14 podium places alongside one for China, reflecting the deep quality of the national field. For the competitors gathered in Osaka, this WCA competition supplied both record-setting benchmarks and vital individual growth, sending solvers into the remainder of the 2026 cubing competition season with immense momentum.
