Dhruva Nikhil Jagtap Sweeps All Four Events at Kalyani Cube Open 2024English

The competition hall at The Kalyani School filled with focused energy as 46 competitors gathered for a packed single day of speedcubing. Stacks of puzzles, timers, and score sheets lined the tables across six rounds of tournament play in Pune, Maharashtra, India. The October 19 tournament brought together solvers across four different events, testing their dexterity, pattern recognition, and poise under competitive pressure.

From the opening rounds, Dhruva Nikhil Jagtap set a commanding standard that went completely unmatched throughout the competition. Jagtap walked away with top honors in all four disciplines on the schedule, capturing every single event title available at Kalyani Cube Open 2024. His dominant run across the floor highlighted a day of remarkable precision and consistency on the timer.

In the main event, Jagtap controlled the classic Rubik's Cube with ease, taking first place in the 3x3x3 Cube with a winning average of 9.41 seconds and a best single of 8.58 across two rounds. Joshua Allen Mangalapallil secured second place with an average of 11.11, while Alina Shaikh joined them on the podium in third with an 11.33 average. The final 3x3 results confirmed Jagtap as the only solver in the 42-person field to post a sub-10 second average.

Jagtap continued his clean sweep across the remaining disciplines. In the 2x2x2 Cube, he locked up the win with a blistering 2.24 average and a 1.75 single, leading a podium that included Pranav Dandgaval in second at 3.83 and Arghadeep Mukherjee in third at 4.05. In the Clock event, Jagtap posted a 5.29 winning average, outpacing Imaad Sohel Ajani who finished second with 5.97 and Jay Nikhil Gadgil in third at 6.41. Jagtap capped his sweep in Pyraminx, logging a 4.31 winning average ahead of Dandgaval at 5.20 and Joshua Allen Mangalapallil at 5.64.

Away from the top of the podium, the deeper story of this WCA competition lived in the individual breakthroughs across the ranks. Ruthvik Mrunmayee Shelke took on three disciplines and unlocked massive personal progress, slicing 55 percent off their Pyraminx best with a 9.39 mark after previously holding a 20.85, improving their 3x3x3 Cube best by 13.2 percent to 36.57, and recording an 8.63 in their first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube on the way to a 27th place finish.
