Consistency Triumphs Across Eight Disciplines at İzmir Open 2024English
Inside the halls of Gelişim Koleji in İzmir, Turkey, rows of timers and stacks of plastic puzzles set the stage for a demanding weekend of competition. Across June 1 and June 2, 2024, the venue filled with dozens of dedicated solvers methodically inspecting scrambles and executing precise turns. While individual fast times always capture attention, the ultimate test of competitive solving remains the average. Sixty-six participants gathered to test their nerves, knowing that sustained composure across five solves in a round matters far more than an isolated burst of speed.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew 62 competitors through three rounds of rigorous action. In a discipline often celebrated for the classic Rubik's Cube, steady discipline proved to be the deciding factor. Güney Ünal secured the title with a tournament-winning average of 11.93 seconds, backed by a best single of 10.54. Özcan Arda Cansız claimed second place with a final round average of 13.45 seconds, while İskender Aznavur finished third with an average of 14.22 seconds, putting a cap on the definitive 3x3 results.
In the 2x2x2 Cube, 51 competitors took to the tables across three rounds of lightning-fast turns. Kerem Yiğit took the victory by delivering a commanding 4.43-second average alongside a single of 2.51 seconds. Ege Çatalcalı followed in second place with an average of 5.03 seconds, while İskender Aznavur captured third with a mark of 5.34 seconds. The event was characterized by steady execution under time pressure, rewarding those who kept their times controlled from solve to solve.

Özcan Arda Cansız took the runner-up position with a 28.70 average, while Kemal Tuna Çobanoğlu rounded out the podium in third place with a 37.47 average. Aznavur added this title to his podium finishes in other events, cementing a heavily active and disciplined weekend.
