Ignatian Open 2023 Brings Speedcubing Energy to JakartaEnglish

The competition hall at SMA Kolese Kanisius Jakarta hummed with constant activity across March 25 and March 26. Tables filled with solve mats, stack timers, and judges created an electric setting as 143 competitors gathered for two full days of Rubik's Cube action. For dozens of newcomers stepping onto the official stage for the very first time, the atmosphere carried the distinct thrill of a debut weekend, where every solve under official scrutiny marked a personal milestone.

The Ignatian Open 2023 featured a varied nine-event lineup spanning 12 rounds of intense play. With competitors traveling from across the region to Jakarta, Indonesia, the tournament offered everything from lightning-quick standard puzzles to multi-layered big cubes and blindfolded tests. The weekend showcased the sheer breadth of modern speedcubing, giving emerging solvers an expansive platform to test their skills alongside seasoned veterans.

Beyond the fight for top podium spots, the heart of any cubing competition lies in the dramatic individual progress achieved across the field. Begawan Tirta Adibrata took on five events, logging a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed with a time of 39.93 seconds, another first attempt in Skewb at 24.72 seconds, and a massive 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 15.43 seconds, which was 54.8 percent faster than a previous mark of 34.11. Maxwell Lie tackled four events, producing a 6.88-second personal best in 2x2x2 Cube to drop his prior mark by 55.4 percent, a 19.19-second personal best in 3x3x3 Cube that improved on 41.93 by 54.2 percent, and a first Pyraminx attempt of 10.60 seconds.

That same spirit of ambition defined the efforts of several other emerging solvers throughout the schedule. Indraninda Falah Rizky entered six separate disciplines, recording a 27th-place finish in Skewb while registering first ever official attempts in 4x4x4 Cube at 2:27.63, Pyraminx at 9.82 seconds, and 3x3x3 One-Handed at 1:13.80. Glenn Nathanael Heryawan competed in five events, securing 14th place in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, logging a first 2x2x2 Cube mark of 6.68 seconds and a first One-Handed result of 51.17 seconds, while cutting his 3x3x3 Cube best by 32 percent down to 12.83 seconds.
