Kevin Gustavo Sebastián Flores Bazagoitia Claims Victory in La Paz at IALA 2025English

Inside the halls of the Instituto Adventista Los Andes, the atmosphere was charged with intense focus as solving mats were laid out and timers were checked across the main stage. Speedcubers from across the region gathered for a dedicated single-day meeting on July 27, 2025, ready to test their recognition and turn speed against the clock. The venue in La Paz, Bolivia buzzed with quiet concentration as competitors completed their warm-up solves, reviewed their notation, and took their seats to kick off an action-packed schedule.

A total of 67 competitors gathered to take part in IALA 2025, which put a specialized focus entirely on the classic Rubik's Cube across three full elimination stages. With three rounds of solving scheduled throughout the day, every entrant had an immediate benchmark to hit to progress further through the bracket. Official WCA results tracked every single attempt and five-solve average, giving the field a clear picture of what was required to survive each successive cut and advance toward the afternoon finale.

The 3x3 results at the top of the standings delivered an exceptionally tight battle that came down to fractions of a second in the final round. Kevin Gustavo Sebastián Flores Bazagoitia earned first place on the podium, posting a winning average of 10.19 seconds along with the best single time of the competition at 9.64 seconds. He was pushed to the limit by Daniel C. Bedoya, who claimed second place with an average of 10.23 seconds, while Luzio Batuani Conde secured third place with a mark of 10.42 seconds to complete an all-Bolivian podium.

Beyond the fight for the title, official record marks were written into the books throughout the rounds of 3x3x3 Cube solving. Favio Tapia also recorded a sharp 11.68 single and a 12.57 average, and Jhoel Ivan Quenallata Salas secured marks of 19.06 for single and 23.73 for average during his campaign.

The official scoring ledger continued to expand as Juan Ever Lampa Aguirre registered a single of 10.76 seconds and an average of 13.60 seconds. Alex Rodrigo Pastrana Maceda logged an 18.14 single and a 23.12 average, while Leonel Fabricio Velarde Florian posted a 32.98 single and a 40.68 average. Away from the top of the standings, the true spirit of the cubing competition showed in the remarkable breakthroughs made by emerging competitors throughout the day. Manuel Villarreal Cadena registered the most dramatic drop in the field, setting a new 3x3x3 Cube personal best of 17.38 seconds, which was 57.9 percent faster than his prior mark of 41.30. Leo Salas Torrico shaved significant time off his benchmark by putting up a 21.70 personal best, an improvement of 32.9 percent, while Alexander Daniel Garzofino Catari dropped his personal record by 26.2 percent to 20.30 seconds. Mauricio Silva Rojas also made a massive leap forward, finishing with a new best of 28.78 seconds to beat his previous mark by 19.7 percent.

That same drive was evident across the rest of the running order as Arvin Jhair Arce Vasquez took 11th place in 3x3x3 Cube with a personal best of 10.43 seconds, trimming 17.7 percent off his past record. Manuel Alejandro Pumacahua Loayza lowered his personal standard by 17.3 percent down to 31.13 seconds, while Keila Noemi improved by 16.4 percent to hit 45.25 seconds. Meanwhile, four competitors made their career debuts at an official WCA competition at IALA 2025: Erick Leonel Humerez Valencia recorded his first ever attempt at 32.65 seconds, Juan Ever Lampa Aguirre notched a 10.76 to finish 13th, Christian Jhonatan Mamani Alave posted a 17.24, and Jeremy Lenith Lorein Flores Bazagoitia completed their first attempt in 1:30.05.

The single-event format created a vibrant, focused day of speedcubing that highlighted both the sharp precision of top-tier finalists and the rapid growth of newcomers. Every stage of the bracket gave the 67 entrants a clear platform to test their hardware and methods against standardized timing equipment under official regulations. From the first turns in the morning to the decisive solves of the final, the gathering showed the depth of local talent competing in the region.

As the equipment was packed away at Instituto Adventista Los Andes, the event left behind dozens of updated personal milestones and three hard-earned podium finishes. Speed cubing in the area continues to build momentum with each passing tournament, giving rising solvers the experience needed to progress toward the next season. The day concluded with Kevin Gustavo Sebastián Flores Bazagoitia holding the top spot, ending IALA 2025 on a decisive standard of excellence.
