Daniel Wallin Secures Four Titles as New Solvers Take the Stage in SträngnäsEnglish
The tables were set and the timers lined the floor at Vasaskolans matsal on November 16, 2024, as speedcubing returned to Strängnäs, Sweden. With autumn underway across the Södermanland region, thirty-one competitors gathered inside the hall for a focused single-day schedule comprising seven disciplines and fourteen separate rounds. Among the participants stepping forward to solve under tournament conditions, the room was filled with solvers tackling fresh disciplines and registering early career marks across a busy lineup of events.
The atmosphere inside the hall reflected the energy of an open cubing competition, where newcomers and experienced hands shared the same stations across the tournament. Organised under official World Cube Association regulations, the meeting gave newer entrants a direct pathway into competitive play. Whether facing the classic Rubik's Cube or branching out into side puzzles, the day provided an immediate platform for developing solvers to test their skills in an official WCA competition environment.
At the front of the pack, Daniel Wallin put together a dominant display across multiple categories, securing four individual event victories throughout the gathering. In the marquee 3x3x3 Cube event, which drew all 31 entrants across three stages, the final came down to fractions of a second. Wallin took first place with a winning average of 8.21 seconds, edging out Ludwig Ivarsson, who took second at 8.23 seconds, and Felix Lärnestad, who placed third with an 8.70 mark in the final 3x3 results. Wallin also logged the best single solve of the event at 6.78 seconds.
Wallin continued his winning form in the 4x4x4 Cube, posting an average of 32.29 seconds along with a round-best single of 29.89 to top the 21-competitor field ahead of Helmer Ewert at 34.31 and Dante Videfrost at 38.69. In 3x3x3 One-Handed, another razor-thin contest unfolded between Wallin and Lärnestad. Wallin secured first place with an average of 14.12 seconds, narrowly ahead of Lärnestad's 14.14, while Ewert finished third in 14.61. Wallin added his fourth title of Höst i Mälarpärlan 2024 in Skewb, averaging 3.86 seconds ahead of Ian Videfrost at 4.71 and Ewert at 5.52.
Away from the top step of the podium, significant milestones unfolded across the tables as competitors shattered their earlier tournament bests. Sam Lindström took on three events and delivered massive progress, dropping his 2x2x2 Cube single to 4.82 seconds to beat his previous mark by 54.6 percent, while also cutting his Pyraminx single by 28.8 percent to 8.08 and trimming his 3x3x3 Cube best to 54.08.
