Xulang Li Double Leads Fast-Paced Formats at Hong Kong Cube Day 2025English

Across 12 demanding rounds of head-to-head solving, the tournament schedule at Hong Kong Cube Day 2025 tested endurance and consistency from morning to evening. Staged at The Wave in Hong Kong, Hong Kong on June 7, 2025, the single-day WCA competition welcomed 166 competitors ready to navigate rigorous advancement cuts. Five distinct events challenged the roster, demanding instant composure across progressive stages. With cutoffs sorting the large fields swiftly, only the most composed solvers survived the early brackets to contest the finals across 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, one-handed, and blindfolded disciplines.

The premier 3x3x3 Cube bracket brought 165 competitors to the tables through a triple-round structure that steadily raised the pressure. By the time the final round arrived, the battle for the top spot turned into a masterclass in sub-seven execution. Xulang Li of China claimed the championship with a winning average of 6.37, supported by the event single of 5.88. Yiming Zhuang of China took second place with a 6.76 average, while Caden Ng of Australia earned third on a 6.98 mark. The tight 3x3 results proved how effectively the multi-stage filter honed the field down to the sharpest talent.

Xulang Li doubled his title haul in 3x3x3 One-Handed, an event featuring 74 entrants over two rigorous rounds. Solvers had to execute turns with a single hand while managing rapid lookahead under standard stage timing. Li captured first place with an 11.75 winning average alongside a best single of 9.75. Ivan Li Ka Leong of Hong Kong secured second place averaging 13.19, edging out Zijian Cai of China who placed third with a 13.32 average. The single-handed discipline rewarded smooth ergonomic control as the two-round format left no room for turning errors.

The 2x2x2 Cube event unfolded across three rapid rounds for 111 competitors, where thousandths of a second decided qualification. Chan Yau Hoi of Hong Kong took the title, posting a blistering 1.73 winning average and a best single of 1.20. Xulang Li claimed second place on the podium with an average of 1.93, while Yu-Chun Yeh of Taiwan finished third averaging 2.00. The lightning pace of the miniature Rubik's Cube required flawless starts and inspection execution, making it one of the most intense brackets of the day.

In the 4x4x4 Cube competition, 73 competitors navigated a two-round advancement setup where inner-slice parity algorithms made every solve precarious. Zijian Cai of China took top honours with a winning average of 24.85 and the round single of 22.25. Ivan Li Ka Leong claimed his second podium of the weekend by securing second place in 26.14, while Andy Mok Man Cheuk took third in 27.82. The 3x3x3 Blindfolded discipline saw 24 entrants take on the memory challenge over two rounds, where Jeff Park of the USA won with a best single of 17.13, followed by Chu Yiu On at 38.55 and Timothy Kong Wing Sum at 1:02.01.

Beyond the championship finals, the preliminary stages provided a stage for individual milestones across the tables. Wong Tsz Shing took on four events, completing a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:57.59 while cutting his 2x2x2 personal best to 4.08, an improvement of 58.9 percent, alongside a 25.58 mark on 3x3x3 that was 6.5 percent faster than before. Chan Hoi Cheuk improved his 2x2x2 best by 56.9 percent down to 6.29 and lowered his 3x3x3 mark to 24.28, a 26.6 percent drop. Nicolas Ling Wai Chun made his first ever attempt at 2x2x2 Cube with a 6.77 single and shaved 48.5 percent off his 3x3x3 best to record 17.20.

That same drive was evident across multiple multi-puzzle campaigns. Cheung Yi Cing contested five separate disciplines, securing a best finish of 5th in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a personal best of 1:48.68 that lowered previous marks by 42.6 percent, recording a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 40.49, and dropping 2x2x2 to 3.05 for a 29.7 percent improvement. Alvin Ma Cheuk Ting tackled five events, putting up a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:12.01, a first ever attempt at 3x3x3 One-Handed in 26.85, and a 3x3x3 personal best of 11.46 that was 40.3 percent faster. Chiu Shing Hin rounded out his four-event program with a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:13.14, a 2.14 personal best on 2x2x2 that was 27.9 percent faster, and a 25.42 mark in One-Handed, 8.4 percent faster than his prior standard.

The final medal count at Hong Kong Cube Day 2025 highlighted the depth of regional speed cubing, with China and Hong Kong each securing six podium finishes, complemented by podiums from the USA, Taiwan, and Australia. The combination of demanding round structures, fast resets, and diverse puzzles ensured every participant met their match against the clock. As this classic speedcubing gathering concluded, the progression of personal marks and tournament records cemented another memorable chapter for the cubing competition circuit.
