One hundred and fifty-six competitors gathered on August 31, 2024, as Hong Kong Cube Day 2024 brought top-tier speedcubing action to The Wave. Across twelve intense rounds and six official disciplines, the single-day event delivered rapid turnarounds and high drama. The atmosphere inside the venue reflected a vibrant community of solvers eager to post top marks in a premier WCA competition in Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

Ivan Li Ka Leong put together a commanding performance across the major twisty puzzles, securing two individual victories and a runner-up spot. Li captured the main 3x3x3 Cube crown with a sensational 6.69 final average and a standout single solve of 6.28, leading a massive field of 155 participants. The official 3x3 results cemented his control, but his dominance was equally pronounced on the bigger hardware. In the 4x4x4 Cube, Li claimed top honours with a winning average of 23.78 and a best single of 21.35, outpacing the rest of the final field.

Matching the intensity step for step, Korea's Jaemin Chang mounted an exceptional campaign that yielded two titles of his own. In Square-1, Chang dominated the 33-competitor bracket with a 7.33 average and an incredible 4.20 single solve. He followed that triumph with another gold in the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, recording an average of 12.37 and a best single of 9.84 across two rounds of play. Chang also claimed second place in the 3x3x3 Cube, the 4x4x4 Cube, and the 2x2x2 Cube, earning five total podium finishes across the meet.

The 2x2x2 Cube final served up one of the tightest contests of Hong Kong Cube Day 2024, featuring 111 competitors across two fast-paced rounds. Chan Yau Hoi of Hong Kong took the top spot on the podium with a 1.94 average, holding off Jaemin Chang who finished right behind at 1.98. Ng Tsz Hei rounded out the top three with an average of 2.21, completing a remarkably swift final where sub-two averages decided the ultimate winner.

In Pyraminx, Timothy Kong Wing Sum demonstrated exceptional speed across both rounds, besting 69 entrants to secure victory. Kong posted a 2.61 winning average and a 2.33 single solve to take first place. Chow Lok Hang finished closely behind in second with a 2.95 average, while Andy Mok Man Cheuk earned third at 3.03. Kong also proved his versatility throughout the day by taking second place in the Square-1 event with an 8.68 average, just behind Chang.

Away from the top steps of the podium, several solvers logged remarkable personal breakthroughs that told the broader story of the cubing competition. Yim Cheuk Him tackled all six disciplines on the schedule, achieving a massive 77.7 percent drop on his Square-1 personal best with a 9.32 mark, while slicing 18.4 percent off his Pyraminx best to hit 5.53 and cutting his 3x3x3 One-Handed time to 20.34. Jaylok Tsang entered four events, making his first official attempts at the 4x4x4 Cube with a 1:29.73 and Pyraminx with an 8.44, alongside a 2x2x2 personal best of 3.51 that was 33.5 percent faster than his prior record.

Progress continued across the board as Choi Cheuk Yee recorded her first ever attempts in Pyraminx at 6.43 and 3x3x3 One-Handed at 22.28, in addition to an 18.9 percent personal best improvement in the 3x3x3 Cube at 10.87. Lau Ho Chi logged his first Pyraminx solve at 10.32 while cutting his 3x3x3 One-Handed best by 49 percent to 17.52 and dropping his 2x2x2 best by 29.6 percent down to 3.11. Angus Lo Kai Him secured a fifth-place finish in Pyraminx with a 2.83 personal best, lowered his 2x2x2 best to 2.94, and tried one-handed solving for the first time with a 32.01. Tsiang Wei Yan made first attempts at 2x2x2 with a 2.62 and Pyraminx with a 6.77, while lowering his Rubik's Cube best to 8.09.

The one-handed event saw Jack Shi secure third place with a 12.68 average behind Jaemin Chang and Ivan Li Ka Leong, while Andy Mok Man Cheuk added two more podiums by finishing third in both the 3x3x3 Cube and 4x4x4 Cube. In Square-1, Liu Yik Yung placed third with an 11.53 average. In total, local solvers from Hong Kong accounted for thirteen podium spots over the course of the weekend, while Korean competitors claimed five.

With fast times recorded across every event, Hong Kong Cube Day 2024 highlighted the deep competitive standard of speed cubing in the region. Solvers demonstrated remarkable skill across every puzzle format, setting high benchmarks for the rest of the year. 賽場上的多面手與初次挑戰者同樣留下了亮眼表現。Kwong Kai Chun (鄺啟竣)在賽事中首次出戰四階魔方並取得1:20.21，其三階魔方成績提升30%至10.71秒，金字塔成績進步24.7%至5.48秒。Ling Hei Nok (凌希諾)挑戰了六個項目，迎來四階魔方的首秀並斬獲1:01.46，其三階單手以26.16秒提速24.8%，金字塔項目以2.69秒提速23.4%。Tang Ue Tze (唐御篪)首次在WCA舞台挑戰金字塔魔方錄得9.77秒，二階魔方首秀收穫4.00秒，三階魔方則以11.15秒提速15.4%。

在三階單手（3x3x3 One-Handed）項目中，共有69名選手同場競技。Jaemin Chang (장재민)憑藉單手單次9.84秒和平均12.37秒的穩定發揮奪得金牌。Ivan Li Ka Leong (李嘉亮)以12.56秒緊隨其後獲得亞軍，Jack Shi (時煬傑)以12.68秒的平均成績奪得季軍。
