Luke Garrett Claims Five Victories at Hancock County Spring 2026English
Six events were scheduled across ten fast-paced rounds, and one competitor claimed victory in five of them. At Hancock County Spring 2026, held on April 26, 2026, at the Community Foundation of Hancock County in Greenfield, Indiana, USA, 58 competitors gathered for a day of intense speedcubing. Luke Garrett delivered an overwhelming showing, capturing gold medals across varied puzzle disciplines, from traditional twists to memory-heavy solving events. His commanding run set the pace for an energetic regional gathering that drew solvers from across the United States and India.
The premier 3x3x3 Cube event drew all 58 participants through three separate rounds of play. Garrett established control early and finished atop the standings with a winning average of 6.17 seconds, highlighted by a best single solve of 5.30 seconds. Behind him in the 3x3 results, Thamaneeswar Sathesh Kumar secured second place with an average of 8.02 seconds, while Chris Yeager rounded out the podium in third at 8.43 seconds. Garrett's steady execution on the classic Rubik's Cube set a dominant tone that carried across the rest of the schedule.
Garrett extended his reach immediately into the bigger puzzles. In the 4x4x4 Cube, which brought 39 solvers to the tables over two rounds, he secured first place with an average of 25.70 seconds and a single of 20.20 seconds. India's Thamaneeswar Sathesh Kumar earned another runner-up finish with an average of 31.68 seconds, followed closely by Lucy Grace Bryson in third at 32.37 seconds. The standard Megaminx event saw 26 competitors battle over a single round, where Garrett claimed yet another top spot with a 36.75 average, topping Bryson's 40.13 and Jayden Clark's 50.12.
The blindfolded categories offered no reprieve from Garrett's momentum. In the 3x3x3 Blindfolded event featuring 15 competitors, where solvers inspect and memorize the puzzle before dropping a blindfold, Garrett took first place with a single time of 35.52 seconds. Carson Claud took second with a time of 1:02.74, and Tristan Martin earned third in 1:14.45. In the grueling 3x3x3 Multi-Blind discipline, Garrett completed 14 out of 15 cubes in 50:58 to secure his fifth title. Claud took second with 12 out of 15 in 56:07, and Eric Dodson finished third with a clean 6 out of 6 in 45:35.
The only gold medal to escape Garrett came in the Pyraminx, which featured 41 competitors over two rounds. Cyrus Gearhart edged out the field to win with a sharp 2.26 average, recording a best single solve of 1.87 seconds. Garrett took second place with an average of 2.39 seconds, while Jayden Clark secured third with a 3.10 average. Across the entire competition, podium finishes were heavily claimed by United States entrants with 16 top-three spots, while Indian competitors secured two podium positions.
Away from the top of the podium, personal breakthroughs defined the day for many participants in the hall. Craig Redmond took on three events, logging a first ever attempt at Pyraminx with a 12.58 and a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube with a 1:34.34, while slashing his 3x3x3 Cube personal best by 47.1 percent down to 14.84 seconds. Nathaniel Gillen shaved 49.5 percent off his Pyraminx personal best to reach 8.39 seconds, dropped his 3x3x3 Cube best by 15.7 percent to 15.70, and logged his first 4x4x4 Cube solve at 1:33.89. Vivian LeClerc showed a massive 49.4 percent improvement in the 3x3x3 Cube, bringing her personal best down to 39.26 seconds.
Other competitors took on extensive event programs and registered valuable new marks. Wade Hutson entered four events, posting a personal best of 58.20 seconds in the 4x4x4 Cube that was 43.7 percent faster than before, a 23.8 percent improvement on 3x3x3 Cube at 12.25 seconds, and a first attempt at Megaminx of 1:20.22 to finish ninth. Asher Shores dropped his 4x4x4 Cube time by 32.3 percent to 49.01 seconds and improved his Megaminx by 29.1 percent to 1:08.16, placing eighth. Xavier Stoner made his first WCA competition appearance by tackling six events, taking fourth in Multi-Blind, while Justin Smith completed his first WCA competition across four events, including a 15.01 single on 3x3x3 Cube. Heather Robertson also had a busy schedule across five events, logging her first official 3x3x3 Blindfolded solve of 3:52.00 to finish eighth.
