Youth and Rapid Progress Take Center Stage at Gulf of Finland 2023English

Inside Länsiterminaali 2 aboard Megastar and MyStar, the maritime setting provided a lively backdrop for a weekend of intense puzzle solving. Competitors gathered in Helsinki, Finland across March 18 and March 19, focusing on the competition tables as timers prepared to capture every fraction of a second. The maritime air and focused atmosphere welcomed sixteen competitors eager to test their skills across five diverse events spanning ten full rounds of action. With puzzles ranging from lightning-fast sprints to multi-layered big cubes, the gathering demonstrated the vibrant spirit of modern speedcubing from the very first solve.

The competitive narrative of the weekend centered heavily on young talent and how swiftly developing solvers are making strides in international events. Gulf of Finland 2023 offered a platform where rapid improvement was on full display across every single discipline. As young competitors continue to refine their technique and lower their times at an astonishing pace, this WCA competition showed that dedication translates directly into remarkable execution on the official stage. The energy throughout both days reflected a rising generation determined to challenge established marks and set new personal standards in the 2023 season.

Nowhere was this dedication clearer than in the classic 3x3x3 Cube event, which brought fifteen competitors into the opening round. When the final round concluded, Urho Kinnunen of Finland secured the title with an impressive winning average of 8.11 seconds alongside a best single solve of 7.71 seconds. Adam Chodyniecki of Poland earned the second spot on the podium with a strong 8.89 average, while Viljo Elo of Finland completed the top three with an average of 10.45. These 3x3 results highlighted the sharp execution needed to master the traditional Rubik's Cube under strict tournament conditions.

Beyond the primary puzzle, the 2x2x2 Cube delivered rapid turnarounds and exceptionally tight margins across its two rounds of play. Antto Pitkänen of Finland claimed the gold medal with a composed winning average of 2.99 seconds, backed by a quick single solve of 2.09 seconds. Piotr Olszewski of Poland took second place with an average of 3.28 seconds, followed closely by Luukas Lempinen of Finland in third at 3.45. The event featured intense competition throughout the thirteen entrants, proving how quick recognition and clean execution determine the podium in short-format solving.

Antto Pitkänen continued a phenomenal weekend by capturing a second victory, this time in the Clock event. Navigating the intricate dials across two competitive rounds, Pitkänen secured first place with a winning average of 6.55 seconds and an event-best single of 6.25 seconds. Piotr Olszewski pushed hard to take second place with a 6.73 average, adding another silver to his tally. Urho Kinnunen rounded out the podium in third place with a 7.96 average, ensuring Finland took two of the three podium positions in an event requiring exceptional coordination.

Big cube specialists found their spotlight in the grueling 6x6x6 Cube and 7x7x7 Cube events, where Kait Rosenberg of Estonia delivered an outstanding double triumph. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Rosenberg paced the field of fourteen solvers with a winning average of 1:56.83 and a fastest single of 1:48.42, finishing ahead of Arttu Puttonen of Finland who posted 2:02.15 and Piotr Olszewski who achieved 2:05.46. Rosenberg matched that dominance in the 7x7x7 Cube, recording a winning average of 3:03.14 and a single of 2:43.50. Olszewski claimed silver in 3:08.53, while Puttonen took bronze in 3:13.55.

Away from the top steps of the podium, the weekend was defined by substantial individual breakthroughs and steady progress across the board. Julian Peylo of Finland took on two events during the competition and made a notable step forward in the 2x2x2 Cube, delivering a personal best single of 4.60 seconds, which improved upon a previous mark of 4.98 seconds by 7.6 percent. Meanwhile, Latvia's Jēkabs Janovs entered all five events on the schedule, achieving a fifth-place tournament best in the 2x2x2 Cube and dropping his 7x7x7 Cube personal best down to 4:50.50, an improvement of 5.2 percent over his previous best of 5:06.29.

The overall medal count underscored the international breadth of the weekend, with host nation Finland earning eight total podium places, Poland collecting five, and Estonia taking two. Across every round, the speed cubing community demonstrated how much progress can be forged in a single weekend through precision and practice. Gulf of Finland 2023 concluded as a showcase of rising ability, leaving the competitors with valuable experience and personal benchmarks as they prepare for the next steps in their solving journeys.

As the tables were cleared at the terminal venue, Gulf of Finland 2023 stood as a testament to the thriving regional cubing competition circuit. Solvers departed Helsinki with fresh personal bests, seasoned tournament experience, and tangible evidence of their rapid development. The standard of play achieved across all five events affirmed that the future of the sport is in capable hands as another successful weekend of racing against the clock came to a close.

Kait Rosenberg ja Antto Pitkänen loistivat Gulf of Finland 2023 -kilpailussa HelsingissäSuomi

Suurten kuutioiden ratkaiseminen speedcubing-tasolla on todellinen voimainkoitos, jossa sorminäppäryyden on säilyttävä terävänä satojen siirtojen ajan ilman yhtäkään virhettä.

Gulf of Finland 2023 osoitti nopeusratkonnan monipuolisuuden, jossa salamannopeat sormiliikkeet ja kestävyyttä vaativat suuret kuutiot loivat unohtumattoman kilpailukauden alun Itämerellä.

Helsinki, Finland tarjosi loistavat puitteet tälle viiden eri pulmalajin mittelölle satamaympäristössä. Gulf of Finland 2023 jää historiaan tapahtumana, jossa Kait Rosenberg hallitsi suuria kuutioita ja Antto Pitkänen sekä Urho Kinnunen pitivät kotimaan värit kirkkaina nopeammissa lajeissa kohti seuraavia kilpailuja.
