Chris Chi Rules the Podiums at Gouverneur Quiet 2026English

Inside Saint James Parochial School, the tables were arranged for deep concentration as solvers faced an intense roster of memory and efficiency events. The room remained hushed throughout September 19 to September 20 as competitors prepared their blindfolds and examined scrambles under strict silence. Across five specialized categories, the cubing competition brought together dedicated specialists eager to test their recall and problem-solving patience in Gouverneur, New York, USA.

The 2026 weekend belonged almost entirely to Chris Chi, who delivered an extraordinary showcase across both big cube blindfolded disciplines and standard puzzle challenges. Speedcubing at this level requires immense mental discipline, and Chi proved unbeatable in four separate events throughout the two-day schedule. His commanding performances set the tone early and kept him at the top of the standings through the final tallies.

In 3x3x3 Blindfolded, Chi captured first place with an impressive single solve of 22.44 seconds. That effort secured him the top spot on the podium ahead of Joey Mait, who finished second in 32.45 seconds. Jacob Hughes rounded out the top three for the United States with a time of 57.33 seconds, concluding an American sweep of the classic blindfolded event.

Chi carried that same composure into the 3x3x3 Fewest Moves contest, where competitors work meticulously to solve a Rubik's Cube in the minimum possible turns. Chi took victory with an average of 21.67 moves, once again placing ahead of Mait, who took second place with a mark of 29.00. Cyrille Beauchesne of Canada earned the third spot on the podium by submitting a 34.33 average.

The larger blindfolded categories highlighted Chi's dominance over complex piece memorisation. In 4x4x4 Blindfolded, Chi claimed the top step of the podium with a winning time of 3:10.35. Mait followed in second position with a time of 4:33.01, while Joshua Wright of Canada earned third place with a recorded solve of 8:07.86.

The 5x5x5 Blindfolded event delivered an even sterner test of endurance, where Chi posted the winning result of 9:44.24. Mait took second place with a time of 12:56.00, completing his fourth runner-up placement of the weekend. The remaining competitors in the field, including James Magraken, Jacob Hughes, Cyrille Beauchesne, and Joshua Wright, were unable to log a successful time and recorded DNF results.

Joey Mait broke through for a deserved victory of his own in 3x3x3 Multi-Blind, preventing a total clean sweep by Chi. Mait solved 33 out of 40 cubes within the 1:00:00 time limit to capture the gold. Chi followed closely behind in second place by solving 27 of 33 cubes in 1:00:00, while Canadian competitor James Magraken secured third place with 8 out of 10 cubes in 56:11.

Across the entire WCA competition, the medal count reflected strong battles between competitors from North America, with the United States collecting 12 podium places and Canada earning 6. Fans following the speed cubing circuit closely monitored the 3x3 results and specialist disciplines throughout the tournament. Gouverneur Quiet 2026 proved to be an exceptional gathering, defined by Chi's four victories and a display of elite memory solving.
