Luke Garrett Commands the Tables at Gem City Donut DNF 2024 in DaytonEnglish

Inside the Hindu Temple of Dayton, the atmosphere demanded absolute precision and intense focus across every station. Blindfolded solving is an exacting discipline within speedcubing where competitors rely strictly on meticulous memorisation and pure spatial recall before slipping on eye covers to execute turns without sight. Though the single-day schedule on June 16, 2024, centered on fast-paced manual execution, that same quiet, unrelenting concentration echoed across all twelve rounds of play. Every solver had to isolate their minds from surrounding movements, locking in routines honed over thousands of practice turns.

The 2024 gathering brought together 66 competitors to Dayton, Ohio, USA, for a packed slate spanning five distinct events. Hosted as Gem City Donut DNF 2024, the meeting offered a rigorous test of turning dexterity and mental stamina. Participants tackled everything from classic rotating puzzles to specialized twisty challenges, managing multiple rounds of high-stakes solves. Across the room, judges managed timers with strict adherence to World Cube Association standards, ensuring every single attempt and composite average was recorded down to the hundredth of a second.

Luke Garrett delivered an overwhelming masterclass throughout the weekend, securing victories in four of the five categories. In the premier 3x3x3 Cube event, Garrett paced the 66-entrant field across three rounds, securing the title with a winning average of 6.11 seconds alongside a best single of 4.20 seconds. The 3x3 results solidified Garrett atop the podium ahead of Phillip Lewicki, who logged a 7.03 average, and Nolan Wood, who finished third with a mark of 7.12 seconds.

Garrett extended his dominance well beyond the classic Rubik's Cube format. In the Megaminx division, Garrett captured first place with an average of 37.61 seconds and a single of 32.45 seconds, outlasting Phillip Lewicki with 39.31 seconds and David Miguel-Santiago with 50.36 seconds. In Clock, Garrett posted a 4.15 average to finish ahead of Harsha Paladugu with 5.93 seconds and Keenan Darkins with 6.55 seconds. Garrett then took the Pyraminx crown with a 2.31 average, besting Paladugu with 2.56 seconds and Elliott Perkins with 2.97 seconds.

The only contest that eluded Garrett was the 5x5x5 Cube, where Kate Grahame delivered an exceptional performance to claim the top spot. Grahame posted a winning average of 53.74 seconds with a single solve of 45.31 seconds across 32 competitors. Garrett secured second place in the event with a 54.41 average, while Carson Clark (张卡森) earned third place on the podium with an average of 1:11.43, wrapping up a fiercely contested bracket.

Beyond the championship battles, Gem City Donut DNF 2024 provided a platform for major personal milestones that standard leaderboards rarely capture. Stavro Ghally took on five separate events, recording a first ever attempt in Clock at 31.13 seconds, a first 5x5x5 Cube attempt of 3:33.30, and a Pyraminx personal best of 9.79 seconds that was 34 percent faster than their previous benchmark. Adam Cundiff tackled four disciplines, logging a first Clock try of 13.92 seconds and slashing their 5x5x5 Cube best by 27.7 percent down to 2:48.17. Marquise Osibodu registered a first Megaminx result of 1:51.22 alongside a 26.2 percent improvement in 5x5x5 Cube to 3:41.28. Nicholas Yates delivered one of the weekend largest single-event drops, cutting their 3x3x3 Cube best by 45.6 percent to 18.28 seconds.

Other competitors delivered equally sharp improvements across their individual events throughout the cubing competition. Vivaan Singh cut their Clock best by 32.4 percent to 23.38 seconds, while Wei En Seet (薛玮恩) took 35.1 percent off their previous Clock best with a 16.63 result. Anna Sollinger lowered their Pyraminx mark by 28.9 percent to 6.66 seconds, and Aruhya Elaprolu logged a first Clock single of 17.95 seconds while dropping their Pyraminx personal record by 21.9 percent to 11.80 seconds. These breakthroughs highlighted the deep progression taking place right alongside the race for podium hardware.

For new participants, this speed cubing showcase represented an entry into official competition. Debutants Gideon Banfield, William James Bakken, Caden Hyatt Elrod, and Aditya Patil each logged their inaugural times in official play, setting their initial reference points for seasons ahead. With all 15 podium places earned by United States competitors, the event highlighted regional depth while providing a welcoming stage for newcomers to record their first marks.

As the final timers were cleared at the Hindu Temple of Dayton, the full scope of the gathering became clear. From the intense personal focus demanded at the tables to Garrett four-event sweep and Grahame big-cube win, Gem City Donut DNF 2024 delivered an exceptional day of competition. Solvers departed with new personal marks, fresh data, and official times logged into the WCA competition books, concluding a memorable stop on the speedcubing circuit.
