High Stakes and Tight Margins Define GAN CubingVic 2026 in VicEnglish
The competition floor inside the Antiga Biblioteca Joan Triadú buzzed with the steady rhythm of turning puzzles and the sharp slap of hands hitting timers. Over two days of action, 67 competitors gathered in Vic, Spain, transforming the historic hall into a battleground across 8 events and 17 rounds. In events decided by a mean of three solves or single attempts without the safety of an Olympic average, the pressure was absolute. A single miscalculation or mistimed fingertrick could dismantle an entire weekend, demanding flawless precision from the very first inspection period.
Nowhere was this unforgiving dynamic more visible than in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, where every competitor faced the void of complete memory recall. France competitor Manu Dutheil mastered the tension to secure victory, producing a winning single of 25.03 seconds despite recording a DNF in the final average calculations. Spain representative Jordi Lleixà López claimed second place with a time of 29.21 seconds, while Ivan Iziumenko of Ukraine locked down third place with a 40.97 single, highlighting the fine line between a podium finish and an incomplete solve.
The standard 3x3x3 Cube division drew 62 entrants through three grueling rounds of traditional Rubik's Cube solving. When the final 3x3 results were tallied, Miguel Martínez Montañes captured the title for Spain with an impressive 7.73 average and a round-best 6.60 single. Arnau Tous Mateu applied relentless pressure to finish as runner-up with a 7.89 average, while Vidal Perea Cívico completed the Spanish podium sweep by securing third place with an average of 7.96.
Beyond the main event, the short-format speed cubing events delivered historic speed across the tables. Aitor Ibañez Larrea took top honors in the 2x2x2 Cube with a winning final average of 1.42 and a 1.30 single, having set a spectacular Spanish national record average of 1.05 earlier in the contest. Albert Mandicó Sampol secured second place in the event with a 1.55 average, while Ot Caminals Aleu followed in third with 2.39. In Clock, Manu Dutheil earned another title with a 4.35 average, holding off Spain competitors Aleix Foguet at 4.58 and Arnau Tous Mateu at 4.92.
Arnau Tous Mateu put together a remarkable multi-event campaign at GAN CubingVic 2026, capturing three distinct gold medals. He conquered the single round of 4x4x4 Cube in 32.91 seconds on average, edging Daniel Cofreces Jaureguizar who finished at 33.00, and Miguel Martínez Montañes at 37.32. Tous Mateu also took first place in Skewb with a 3.35 average ahead of Albert Mandicó Sampol at 3.73 and Aitor Ibañez Larrea at 4.15, before dominating Square-1 with an 11.78 average over Ibañez Larrea at 12.63 and Nur Navarro Figueras at 16.42.
Away from the top steps of the podium, several competitors delivered massive personal breakthroughs across the weekend. Nicolás Fernández took on five events and slashed his personal bests, chopping his Skewb mark by 66.7 percent down to 6.86 seconds, his Clock time by 39.3 percent to 12.55, and his 3x3x3 mark by 37.6 percent to 14.85. Núria Carrillo Pascual entered six events and finished 7th in Clock, dropping her Skewb best by 55.4 percent to 3.61 seconds, her 2x2x2 mark by 36.5 percent to 2.58, and her Clock time by 14.5 percent to 6.90. Beltrán Álvarez Pérez achieved an 8.46 personal best in 2x2x2 Cube, an improvement of 54.5 percent, and lowered his 3x3x3 best to 23.38. Jordi Young Savin cut 52.5 percent off his 2x2x2 mark to hit 2.90 seconds, lowered his Pyraminx best by 21.6 percent to 7.63, and set a new 3x3x3 best of 11.99.
