Ablak Sweeps All Four Events as Young Talent Surges at Farewell Cubing in Ankara 2023English
Ahmet Çınar Ablak produced an extraordinary masterclass on December 23, 2023, sweeping the top spot on the podium across every single discipline held in the Turkish capital. His weekend was crowned by a dominant performance in the classic 3x3x3 Cube, where he delivered a winning average of 8.32 seconds alongside a tournament-best single of 6.44 seconds. That showing punctuated an unmatched individual campaign, setting the benchmark for a fast-paced gathering in Ankara, Turkey, where the sport displayed just how rapidly emerging youth are closing the gap on established standards.
Held at the TMMOB Teoman Öztürk Öğrenci Evi ve Sosyal Tesisi venue, Farewell Cubing in Ankara 2023 gathered 32 competitors to battle across 12 fast-moving rounds. The single-day tournament compressed four puzzle formats into an intense schedule of speedcubing action. Beyond the podium triumphs, the gathering served as a stage for rapid personal growth. Young solvers across the field seized the opportunity to shave massive margins off their previous marks, turning the meeting into a vibrant demonstration of how quickly the next wave of talent can advance in competitive solving.
The 3x3 results in the premier Rubik's Cube category reflected fierce competition behind Ablak. Onur Karahan secured second place overall with a steady final round average of 11.42 seconds, holding off a close challenge from Birkan Mayadağ, who took third on the podium with an average of 11.64 seconds. Across three stages of 3x3x3 Cube play, the bracket showed the tightening margins among Turkey's top practitioners, yet none could consistently match the sub-nine-second rhythm Ablak maintained to secure his first gold medal of the weekend.
Ablak carried that same sharp precision into the 2x2x2 Cube, logging a blistering 2.10 winning average in the final round with a best single of 1.47 seconds. Nihat Sarp Ustaömer earned the silver medal position with a solid 3.02 average, while Ali Atmali clinched the bronze spot with a 3.52 average. Earlier rounds featured rapid-fire times throughout the 24-person bracket, establishing the 2x2x2 contest as one of the most tightly packed tournaments on the full timetable.
The side events at this WCA competition continued the trend of total dominance by Ablak, who captured titles in both Pyraminx and Skewb. In Pyraminx, Ablak led the 18 competitors with a 4.27 average and a 3.45 single, outlasting Ali Atmali, who took second with 5.08, and Nihat Sarp Ustaömer, who earned third with 6.29.
