Lev Golub Secures Five Victories Across Dynamic Weekend at Ekvator Rivne Open 2026English

Lev Golub produced an exceptional standard of execution across six different disciplines, capturing five gold medals and narrowly missing a complete clean sweep. In competitive speedcubing formats where every solitary turn carries immense weight and a single miscalculation can dismantle an entire round, precision is paramount. Golub met that demand throughout the schedule, finishing at the summit of nearly every category he entered. The weekend gathered 37 competitors in Rivne (Рівне), Ukraine on May 23 and May 24, delivering 12 packed rounds of action across two intense days of head-to-head resolving.

The 2026 event highlighted the unforgiving nature of top-tier solving, where maintaining consistency under strict limits determines the final standings. Nowhere was the contest closer than in Pyraminx, where Ostap Bukatiuk edged out Golub for the title. Bukatiuk posted a winning average of 2.65 seconds alongside a single of 2.42 seconds, denying Golub a total sweep by a mere five hundredths of a second as Golub settled for second place with a 2.70 average. Andrii Yavorskyi joined them on the podium, taking third position with a 3.85 average in the 28-competitor field.

Golub rebounded decisively in the flagship Rubik's Cube category, leading all three rounds of the classic 3x3x3 puzzle. Among 36 entrants, Golub locked down first place with a 7.52 winning average and the fastest single of the discipline at 6.16 seconds. The 3x3 results confirmed Ukrainian depth as Bukatiuk secured the silver medal with an 8.97 average, while Danyil Turyk captured the bronze step with a 9.26 average. This premier contest rewarded those who avoided lockups and execution faults over five structured solves.

The smaller puzzles saw Golub maintain his blistering pace, taking the 2x2x2 Cube title in commanding fashion. Golub recorded a 1.91 winning average and a best single of 1.71 seconds across three rounds, leading a field of 31 entrants. Bukatiuk earned another podium finish by taking second place with an average of 2.34 seconds, while Yavorskyi rounded out the top three with an average of 3.01 seconds. The tight margins left zero room for hesitation during inspection or execution on the timer.

Golub also displayed tremendous command in the single-round Skewb event, taking first place out of 17 competitors with a 2.75 average and an event-best single of 1.70 seconds. Bukatiuk collected silver with a 4.71 average, while Stepan Kaplinskyi captured bronze with 5.94. In the 3x3x3 One-Handed event, Golub once again separated himself from the 19-player roster over two rounds. He registered a 12.21 winning average alongside a 10.31 single to take gold, ahead of Danyil Turyk in second at 15.59 and Yelysei Hovorun in third with a 19.58 average.

Beyond the top steps, several competitors delivered massive improvements across multiple categories throughout the cubing competition. Marko Maksishko entered three categories and improved his 3x3x3 mark by 20.3 percent with a 1:10.24 average.

The progress continued across the scorecards for seasoned entrants as well. Matvii Maksishko took on six events, achieving personal bests in 3x3x3 One-Handed with 41.99, an 18 percent drop, the 3x3x3 Cube with 14.09, a 17.4 percent drop, and the 4x4x4 Cube with 1:12.75, an improvement of 9.9 percent, alongside a 15th-place Pyraminx finish.
