Mean-of-Three Drama and Unforgiving Big Cubes Highlight Egypt Fall 2024English

Inside Track Sports Hall Cairo, stacks of puzzle boxes and mats filled the tables as 89 competitors readied their hardware across 12 events. The single-day schedule on November 9, 2024, offered 17 fast-moving rounds, where the physical demands of big cubes met the intense pressure of precision formats. In the sprawling indoor space in Cairo, Egypt, the atmosphere shifted rapidly between the high-frequency taps of short-order sprints and the sustained mechanical grind of complex multisided puzzles.

Nowhere was the tension sharper than in the mean-of-3 formats, where competitors face three attempts without the cushion of a dropped worst solve. In events like the 6x6x6 Cube and 7x7x7 Cube, every single turn carries immense weight, because a solitary lockup, pop, or misaligned slice ripples directly into the final average. Unlike standard five-solve rounds that discard extreme times, these long battles demand total consistency, turning mechanical reliability and mental stamina into absolute prerequisites for a place on the podium.

Clément Cherblanc of France navigated that narrow margin with mastery across the big cube schedule at Egypt Fall 2024. In the 6x6x6 Cube, Cherblanc logged a winning mean of 2:17.05 alongside a best single of 2:09.16, keeping clear of Nour Marwan Mostafa, who secured second with 2:38.49. Matteo Dummar took third in 3:14.80. Cherblanc repeated the feat on the massive layers of the 7x7x7 Cube, posting a winning average of 2:54.50 with a top single of 2:51.46, again staying ahead of Mostafa in second with 3:36.77 and Dummar in third with 4:59.61.

Cherblanc extended his dominance into shorter formats, sweeping the 4x4x4 Cube with a 37.53 average, edging Mostafa by two hundredths of a second at 37.55, while Yahia Ahmed Abdallah Elhawy claimed third in 45.44. Cherblanc also captured the 5x5x5 Cube title in 1:12.42 and Megaminx in 1:02.64, alongside a victory in 3x3x3 One-Handed with an average of 16.41. Danial B. Ali Nurdin placed second in one-handed with 22.37, while Aser Hady took third in 22.46. Italy's Matteo Dummar claimed titles in Pyraminx with a 5.06 average, Skewb with 6.35, Square-1 in 10.02, and 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a 50.01 single.

Beyond the title fights, this cubing competition provided fertile ground for personal breakthroughs. Omar Mohamed Eissa dropped his 2x2x2 Cube mark to 3.27, a 74.9 percent improvement over his previous 13.03, took ninth overall in the event, improved his Pyraminx time by 60.7 percent down to 6.97, and made a first official attempt at 4x4x4 Cube with a 1:30.01 solve. Omar Ahmed Mahammad Abdel-Ghani Kassem entered four events, posting first-ever attempts in Skewb at 19.26 and Pyraminx at 9.78, while cutting his 2x2x2 Cube personal best by 60.2 percent down to 4.73. Hossam Mohamed Fahmy shaved 49.8 percent off his 2x2x2 Cube time to hit 3.15, tackled his first 3x3x3 One-Handed solve in 52.53, and placed fourth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with a maiden time of 8:20.84.

The depth of progress continued across the lineup. Karim Mohamed Saeed lowered his 4x4x4 Cube best by 34.6 percent to 55.84, placed fifth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded, and logged first-ever attempts in 3x3x3 One-Handed at 27.21 and 5x5x5 Cube at 2:32.14. Mahmoud Ahmed Abdelsalam entered 10 events, finishing fourth in 7x7x7 Cube while logging initial official times in Skewb at 10.87, Megaminx at 2:41.03, and Square-1 at 1:09.38. Andrew Medhat Monir took on 11 events, securing fifth in 3x3x3 Blindfolded with inaugural times in 2x2x2 Cube at 7.12, Megaminx at 3:10.81, and Skewb at 34.40. Mouaaz Sherif Salman placed fourth in 5x5x5 Cube and debuted in Square-1 at 2:07.10, Skewb at 10.53, and one-handed at 25.86, while Peter Medhat finished eighth in 6x6x6 Cube across eight events, debuting in 2x2x2 Cube at 7.14, one-handed at 1:13.10, and 4x4x4 Cube at 2:19.34.

Shorter events brought their own fireworks, particularly the 2x2x2 Cube, where Adam Shalaby set a national record average of 2.80 during the tournament before taking the final with an average of 3.51. Eyad Moataz Osama Mohamed Eyad finished second in 3.73, and Hannah Nader Eskander completed the podium in 3.76. Eskander went on to take the spotlight in the classic Rubik's Cube main event, leading the 3x3 results across three rounds. Eskander won the 3x3x3 Cube final with a commanding 7.71 average and a 6.78 single, while Danial B. Ali Nurdin took second with 10.01 and Aser Hady finished third in 10.60.

Across seventeen hard-fought rounds, Egypt Fall 2024 proved how dynamic speed cubing can be when precision under pressure meets high-level stamina. The host nation collected 18 podium spots, alongside strong hauls of eight podium finishes each for Italy and France, and two for Malaysia. As the tables cleared and timers were packed away, this memorable WCA competition marked another major chapter for the sport in the region, leaving competitors with new personal milestones to build upon for the year ahead in 2024 and beyond.
