Seventy competitors assembled in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on August 30 and August 31 for a weekend defined by contrasting puzzles and intense focus. Across 12 rounds of action at the Gold Bar Community League, solvers tested their limits on timers and tables. While modern speedcubing often evokes the image of frantic hand movements against ticking clocks, the broader cubing competition discipline encompasses distinct mental approaches, contrasting thoughtful analysis with raw turning pace across various cube dimensions.

The 2025 calendar brought a packed lineup to Edmonton River Valley Rumble 2025, where the classic Rubik's Cube stood alongside larger puzzles requiring deep spatial calculation. Six official events tested agility from the compact two-layer puzzle all the way through the complex seven-layer giant. With 18 podium positions claimed entirely by Canadian competitors, the tournament delivered high-stakes turnarounds across every tier of play.

The 3x3x3 Cube event drew a massive field of 69 competitors across two rounds, delivering gripping 3x3 results at the final table. Caleb dela Fuente secured the victory with a commanding winning average of 7.37 seconds and a best single of 6.38. Benjamin Ragan took the runner-up spot with an average of 9.27 seconds, while Lukas Holden rounded out the podium in third place with a 9.41 average.

Benjamin Ragan enjoyed an exceptional weekend across multiple categories, securing the championship title in the 2x2x2 Cube. Ragan produced a winning average of 2.67 seconds and a sharp single of 2.08, holding off Benjamin Buchner who finished second at 2.78 and Caleb dela Fuente in third at 2.83. Ragan also claimed gold in the 5x5x5 Cube with a 57.66 average and a single of 49.87, edging past Griffin Clem at 58.64 and Andriy Peleshchyshyn at 1:07.64.

Beyond the shorter sprints, big cube mastery took center stage as Griffin Clem dominated the upper brackets at Edmonton River Valley Rumble 2025. Clem captured top honors in the 4x4x4 Cube with a winning average of 31.96 seconds, leading Benjamin Ragan who averaged 33.39 and Azaro Gorloo who posted 34.41. Clem extended that dominance into the 6x6x6 Cube, winning in 1:35.35 over Peleshchyshyn and Ragan, and closed out the 7x7x7 Cube with a 2:16.90 victory ahead of Ragan and Peleshchyshyn.

Away from the top steps of the podium, numerous competitors delivered massive breakthroughs throughout the weekend. Miles Knysh dropped their 2x2x2 Cube personal best to 3.78 seconds, marking a 55.4 percent improvement, while also lowering their 3x3x3 mark to 27.22 seconds. Mateo Domini Lubuguin improved their 2x2x2 best to 2.25 seconds, which was 54.8 percent faster than before, while also logging a first ever attempt at 6x6x6 Cube with 6:55.00 and 7x7x7 Cube with 9:40.14. Roland Dutrisac posted a 2x2x2 personal best of 4.39, a 51.8 percent drop, and completed a first attempt at 6x6x6 Cube in 9:16.14. Lucas Wei took on four events, setting a 2x2x2 best of 2.59, a 44.4 percent improvement, alongside a first 5x5x5 Cube mark of 2:52.58.

The progress continued across the roster as Nathan Hoang improved their 2x2x2 personal best by 41.8 percent to 2.30 seconds across five events. Diya Emani delivered a 37.8 percent improvement in 2x2x2 Cube with a time of 4.01 seconds and completed a first ever attempt at 4x4x4 Cube in 1:10.36. Lorelai Kurata dropped their 3x3x3 best to 19.63 seconds, a 34.4 percent drop from their previous mark. Tathya Marmik Shah improved their 4x4x4 personal best by 30.8 percent to 1:10.84 and recorded a first ever attempt at 5x5x5 Cube in 2:23.42.

First-time attendees also made their mark at this WCA competition, demonstrating the growing reach of speed cubing in the region. Kaiyan Noor-Ali made their official debut by tackling four disciplines, recording a 35.19 single in 3x3x3 Cube and 6.99 in 2x2x2 Cube. Jaydon Peters also entered their first tournament, taking on four events highlighted by a 4.28 in 2x2x2 Cube and 20.31 in 3x3x3 Cube. David Sellmer registered first marks in two events including an 8.82 in 2x2x2 Cube, while Harley Kurata completed inaugural solves in both 2x2x2 and 3x3x3.
